"Keeper of the Stars" by Tim McGraw. Eeep! Tracy Byrd. And to think, I like Watermelon Crawl, too. Thanks for the correction, Cranky.
A whole host of songs by P!nk.
And listen to the lyrics of "That's Just About Right" by Blackhawk.

And a little ditty that just kinda gets to me, even though it's bubble gum pop: Lost in Emotion, by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam.

Oh god! Almost forgot "Wind Beneath My Wings." By Bette Midler. And ONLY by Bette Midler.

Another one I thought of today while I was listening is:

Stones in the Road. Originally written by Mary Chapin Carpenter. I love the Joan Baez version. It's her voice. And the lyrics give me goosebumps every time.

Especially:

When I was ten, my father held me on his shoulders above the crowd
To see a train draped in mourning pass slowly through our town
His widow kneeled with all their children at the sacred burial ground
And the TV glowed that long hot summer with all the cities burning down

Another one that I almost forgot about is "The River" by Garth Brooks. And FWIW, I'm with Poet on "Happy"...love that song a lot, too.

My indoctrination into tear-jerker ballads:
Father and Son by Cat Stevens
Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin

Also, Train in the Distance by Paul Simon

and, in its cool, cool way:
Paris Match by Style Council, with Tracey Thorn's inimitable voice

"What a Wonderful World" by Louie Armstong.
"Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles.

Oh! Garth Brooks. What was that song called? "The Dance."

Yeah. That.

I love any song that reminds us that the bad as well as the good got us to where we are. I'm a big believer in realizing that "me" comes from the ache as well as the pleasure in life.

I have a few. Do you remember that song by Billy Joel, Goodnight Saigon? The first time I heard it tears came to my eyes.

Also, Tiny Dancer by Elton John. That song is like everything I want to say, but can't. My favorite song, hands down.

I also love Tangled up in Blue by Dylan. And Imagine by John Lennon.

It's awful of me, but I can't hear this anymore without thinking of the misheard lyric - "Hold Me Closer, Tony Danza"

:scared:

Elton John does seem to have that unfortunate affect of pronouncing words so they take on a different meaning.

"Count the head lice on the highway"--you forgot that one, lol.

"Finishing The Hat" from the musical Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim. The play is about the artist George Seurat and the creation of his most famous painting, but it's also about both the joy and the isolation of the creative process. This is Mandy Patinkin in the original Broadway production (the number really begins at about :35): Finishing the Hat.

Too many, really. Truthfully, if it doesn't move me I don't listen to it again, at least not on purpose. Could make me happy or excite me or make me reflective or sad, but it's gotta move me in one way or another.

Jesus loves Me by Chris Tomlin
It's bringing tears to my eyes, and his lyric video has the chords on so you can play guitar along with him. I wish I could, this would be the one song I would play.

oh for me it's Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond. That song just immediately transports me somewhere in between everything.
