Hi Laura! Nice to meet you!

Mel! So glad to hear that you have power. What a relief! It makes me sick thinking about all those people who have lost everything. And I totally agree with you about the marathon. I try not to be cynical but it's hard not to be sometimes.

We weathered the storm just fine. The fence was flattened on one side of our yard and we lost some major branches off of our big maple, but no home damage, thank goodness.

Okay, I've procrastinated long enough. Back to my Nanowrimo writing. I'm up to 2,478 words. Woohoo!

It's good to see you! It's been a while. We joined AW at the same time, how awesome is that?! How are you? How goes Nano???

Hi parumpdragon! I didn't realize we joined at the same time. Cool! I lurked for almost a year I think before I started posting.

Nano's going pretty good. Shh! Don't tell anyone I cheated a wee bit. I rewrote the first thousand words of my novel and used it for nanowrimo. But I really needed to jumpstart this novel and I've doubled my word count and then some. Off to a good start.

Of course, I'm indulging in my mandatory Friday night glass (or 2) of wine so I'm not sure how far I'll get tonight before Zzzzzzz at the keyboard.

Good job, Periwinkle. I have just under 2,000 words now. I spent some time combing through those words today. Couldn't help myself.

So far, I avoided the swears. We'll see how long that lasts.

Ally, if you see this, I meant to tell you that Figment is doing a short story contest where the story has to be set in Philadelphia. Though of you :). Not sure about the other details. Read it quickly in an email. But I'm sure you have some stories to write/tell with all the cray cray as of late.

Hi everyone!!!

I saw Perks of being a Wallflower last night with a friend. I read the book over 10 years ago (around ish, can't quite remember LOL). I actually liked the movie more than the book. Shocker. I am usually book >>movie type of girl. I thought the film made certain things in the book more accessible. For example there would be hints in the book that I didn't quite get, whereas the movie I totally understood what was going on.

Hope everyone is doing okay:)

I thought about reading the book before the movie. I figure I'll see the movie at some point because I think Emma Watson is adorable.

But the book price has basically been jacked up because of the movie...so I want to wait to buy it.

I ran 11 miles today. 2 weeks to my half-marathon. I'm not gonna lie. I can't wait til its done just so I can stop doing such stupid, long runs.

Hi Periwinkle! Way to go on the wordage.

Perks of Being a Wallflower was so good but SO sad. (The book, not the movie.) I definitely want to see it, but I'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

Smiley! I want to see Perks of Being A Wallflower! But, I'm an old guy with a rep to maintain and my friends would never let it die down. So, I'm going to don an overcoat, put on a hat, and duck my head like I'm going to a porno theatre. When the ticket kid looks at me funny upon my order, I'm planning on running like crazy directly into the theatre. (Please don't tell anyone!).

Kewii! You must be in awesome shape to be running 11 miles! Seriously. I get out of breath blowing my nose. Please don't kick my butt if we ever meet just 'cause you can.

JK! Those gang members are eventually gonna' have to cuss. Sorry. But that's the way those guys are. You can do it! Good luck!

I should watch Perks, but I haven't read the book.

How's everyone's NaNos going? I just finished what I've kinda considered the "backstory" (even though it's not, it's just that it starts 3 years before the rest of the conflict happens), and I'm almost 14K in. And stuck. I don't know how to start the current time.

Sage! And everyone! Does NaNo really work for y'all?

I put enough pressure on myself to write, I'd hate to have another influence enter the picture. Is it conducive to creativity? Inhibitive? Fun? Capable of driving one to serial killing? Or bad teeth?

I've had good experiences and bad experiences with NaNo. I've produced stories I adore and stories that I shall not speak of. It is fun, if you let it be fun. Sometimes it's a good way to try something new (you've only lost a month of writing time if it doesn't work out), or to break out of writer's block by writing something without considering publication, or to finally put some fire under your ass to get something done that you haven't been motivated yet to do. Writing along with thousands of authors, sharing war stories with them online or in person, going to write-ins to write as a group, doing races with them, it can work up a sense of excitement that isn't quite there in other circumstances. But if you write just to hit a word count, it can be frustrating.

Haven't seen Perks yet but I don't know that much about it. The adverts here where very vague. Just kinda "lookit! Emma Watson!".

It's going okay. At this rate I'll apparently be finished on Dec 4th...I'm usually faster than this. :/

Skip to the next bit you're excited to write and work backwards? What are your big bads/absent characters (if you have them) doing? What would happen if fire got introduced to the scene? Random cute animal high-jacks the scene? Someone gets a splinter? Bunnies attack?

These can work for me sometimes if I get stuck.

Nah, I moved past it. I've only been truly stuck in NaNo once, and just typing the words "plot ninjas of doom" was enough to get me unstuck (ninjas were not involved in any part of that novel, nor doom, except for those words)

Sage! 14K is pretty awesome this early in the month.

I like NaNo because it provides a lot of peer pressure. My favorite distractions are on the internet, but during November, my favorite distractions are filled with reminders the guilt trips. LOL.

I am chugging along at pace.

LOL, yes! This! I love when NaNo participants post their word counts, even though I'm not participating. Because it's a kick in the butt to remind me to write instead of surf. ;)

I added 1.5K to my sequel yesterday. That's my progress so far. Writing more today for sure.

Cool interview, Jill. You sound fun :)

I need a kick in the pants to write today. It was such a busy day and all I did was teach and grade. Then it was soccer, then groceries. Then making dinner. So now it's almost 6...I always go to be by 9 (I'm so sad...but I get up at 5:30)

So yea...probably not going to be a great writing day for me.

Sooo, yeah.

I have a book trailer.

I made it with HUGE amounts of help from my aunt and her BBFF. (Best British Friend Forever)

Here it is.

Hahaha! You are nuts. Def different from what's out there, which makes it stand out. "It's exactly like Hunger Games except for the parts that are completely different."

Not sure if I got the quote exactly right, but I let out a hefty snort on that part.
