Hi! Not a mod, just a member, but it really bothers me when people use clinical mental illnesses as colloquialisms. Would you mind not doing so? Thanks in advance! (You might really have bipolar, but if we don't know that it looks like you're using it as a casual label. I appreciate the consideration. )
I understand your feelings, but it bothers me when people complain about using words in such a way. Even "idiot" draws complaints because someone who reads it has a mentally challenged child, and "idiot" is actually a clinical diagnosis.
I try not to offend unnecessarily with words, but I'm not going to stop using them as colloquialisms when they serve the purpose of saying what I want to say in the clearest, most understandable way.
I'm sorry for anyone who is bipolar, and I feel bad for anyone who is actually an idiot, but I don't think using either of these words as colloquialism helps or harms them in any way.
