I'm not sure there's any point in their practice of personals, because in my exprerience they don't say anything useful about why they rejected the story. At least it does let me know exactly where they stopped reading.

Wow, that's even worse!

This is a bad luck day for me. I had a story in the second round at DSF and just got a form R for that one, too.

29-day form from Fireside. Rats, my rejections always come back faster than anyone else's. I'm pretty sure that's a bad sign.

It's hard to say with Fireside. It could just be a difference in slush readers. But I know the feeling you have. A faster than usual rejection always has a sting. Keep trying.

After F&SF hit me with a "didn't grab me" form, I cut some viewpoint character development from the beginning and subbed it to BCS. They said they didn't get enough of a feel for the main character. Deep sigh.

I have that problem with BCS, too. They always tell me they enjoy my writing, but that they never feel close enough to the character. :/ Idk. A lot of my characters are emotionally withdrawn so it's a difficult balance between sharing emotion and changing the character.

Maybe next time, right?
