I just got interviewed for the Historical Lovecraft story here. It was more than a little weird to be the one answering questions.

I just got the artwork/layout for a story I have coming out shortly and it completely rocks. I've been jumping around and smiling like a goof all day long.

Writing is a really hard road to walk, but man, when it's good it's good.

Wow, that sounds fantastic. Where's the story coming out?

I've been meaning to check out Interzone for a while now - I think I just found my trial issue.

Nathaniel - Funny interview - well done
Suzanne - Congrats

I self-published my first short yesterday, and I cracked the Kindle Short Stories Top 40 today. I'm sure that's a temporary bump from friends and family, but nice all the same. I've been sliding down the charts since, but it was fun being sandwiched between Stephen King and Dating My Vibrator for a while.

It was a two-pack collection. One story was beta'd by Alex, so a big shout out to him.

Dave,

Yeah, I saw that, really curious to see how well this does for you. Let us know the level of sales you generate (outside of friends/family, that is).

Good stuff, Dave. Chalk me up as another who'll be interested in your numbers. I'm running an experiment of my own, with certain parameters, at the moment, too.

I will of course come back and post all of my numbers, however disappointing they may be!

If I have eight more days like today I will have covered my costs.

But I imagine things will slow down considerably.

The cool thing was, the first story in the two-pack had already been sold three times (mag, reprint, anth) so the market was tapped out for it.

You've got a couple of good reviews already I see, that's great. I'll add this to my list of things to buy when I inevitably get a Kindle.

Hey pangalactic,

Getting the reviews was lovely. One was a reader of my blog, but he promised to be honest, and he was. The other was a complete stranger, it appeared about an hour after I went on sale, before I had told a soul.

That was lovely.

I'll download your stories this weekend (and will review them, though I can't promise a positive review).

Thanks for that, I wouldn't expect anything less.

The way I see it, an honest three star review is better than a clearly false five star review.

I might feel differently if it's one star!

I never read the 5 star reviews on Amazon, as a rule. I assume they're from friends of the writer and ignore them.

What if it's a popular book and there are two hundred five stars? Or what if those five stars are thousand word pieces that give an in depth look but love the tale anyway? I've certainly given a fair share of five stars.

Personally i love 1-star reviews, just for their hilarity. Particularly ones that are like: 'this story is high fantasy, and i hate high fantasy, so i give this a 1-star.'

I wish i could review their reviews. 'You read a high fantasy book, even though you hate high fantasy? I give you a 1-star!' :D
