IO, less important and far more trivial N: Which game should I eliminate from my Christmas list? Dishonored or Assassin's Creed 3?

Dishonored >:I My avatar tells ya all you need to know. (Seriously, though, I'm all thrilled about ACIII and Dishonored looks like fun too, so one for Christmas and one for your birthday?)

Um, yesterday I had my very first in-person meeting with my possible future editor. I dunno how many details I can share just yet, but I am so excited I have no idea what to do--it feels completely unreal to be so close to my One True Dream.

I'm actually finding myself remarkably calm about the whole thing. I think it's because I've been suspecting a hearing issue for a long time, so it won't be much of a shock for my suspicions to be confirmed. She can obviously hear to some degree, which makes it a lot easier as well; I just hope that a specialist can give me a better idea of what she can and can't hear.

My Mom, on the other hand, has been in a weird panic mode ever since I told her she failed the first hearing test, so I don't know how she's going to react when I tell her about this one.

Thanks Junely :D

What's to panic about? Even if worse comes to worst, and she has the sort of hearing loss my daughter has, it doesn't change who she is. My daughter is twenty years old. She has a driver's license, and is going to college, she has a boyfriend and squabbles with her sister, she's held jobs, and bums money off me, she loves red velvet cake and hates my cooking.

She's normal in every sense of the word. She just communicates a little differently.

Good afternoon Cantina!

Well, I got my schedule for Black Friday and it sucks. I start at 8:30pm (the store is opening at 9:00 Thanksgiving night!) and finish at 6:30 the next morning. 10 hours! Needless to say, I'm not happy and going to try working something out. I don't mind coming in, but I'm not working a full ten hours on no sleep, especially when there're crazed customers running about. I really hate retail this time of year.

It almost feels like it fell into my lap at just the right time.
That's awesome tj! It's amazing how things just happen sometimes. Congrats!

Plus so much of the contemporary fantasy stuff (and steampunk and dieselpunk) is in the hardboiled level: working class, hardscrabble, etc. I wanted something a little different, something with more of a jetset flavor.

Is my thinking completely off on this? Would the character be more appealing if he were less jetset, a little more working class?
Nope. I think you have a great idea here, June. Stick with it.

Also, I think most contemporary/urban fantasy tends to have working class characters because the tone of the stories are generally dark and gritty. Not that jetsetters can't be, but I guess working class people tend to be more hard-nosed.

ETA: I just got a late fee for one of my bills. *sigh*

My birthday is actually right around Christmas (29th). It's not all it's cracked up to be. Most of the time, my birthday gets lost in the shuffle of Holiday celebrations. I used to get extra presents, but not anymore. I'm too old for gifts, according to my mother.

Bummer. Just put both on your list, tell 'em to pick one and surprise you?
That still leaves me with the problem of being without a game I really want (because I really want both of them). Though I do vaguely recall my brother saying "whichever one mum gets, I'll get you the other one" as a throwaway statement... I might just have to hold him to that.

* rearranges calendar*

Now it goes December, July, February. That ok with you RA? :D
This will be perfectly satisfactory, yes.

My mum's been saying that since I was 16 yet she still hasn't stopped getting me any.

Yes! That is the perfect solution :D

How old is too old for presents? I'm 46, and I still get presents from my mom.

My birthday is in December.

My mom always told the cake decorators to use spring or summer colors, 'cause really, who needs more red and green holly?

I stopped getting an Easter basket at 13. My mom's just not a big celebratory person. I think Christmas is the only holiday she vaguely gets into. She says holidays are too much work to enjoy

Morning. Dogs had a restless night, as did I. They don't seem to be in pain or listless, so a tentative yay. No playing today, though.

Tentative yays. I hope they continue to be well.

Gais....

My book is on GoodReads. :gone:

I'm actually kinda terrified now.

*starts counting downuntil release date*

You'll have to wait until next week I'm afraid. I'm still too exhilarated after writing that one.

:snoopy:

I bounced off the walls for hours after my as the cantina turns episode.

Btw, that was awesome.

:D

Travesty! Heads will roll!

Now I've got that song in my head.

Ion, meeting a friend for lunch. Well, hopefully anyway., cause I texted to confirm and she hasn't texted back.

Irregardless I met a lovely Japanese woman on the train today, and got invited to sushi as a result of the resulting conversation. So it's been a win of a day either way.:)

I don't get a cake anymore. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I had one. I think my aunt bought it for me.

My chapter is now complete. The words aren't crap either. Well, at least I don't think they are. Others may think differently. Anyway, it feels great to accomplish something. If I can keep up this pace, I might be able to finish this draft in a month. I've only got a few chapters left.

Work again tonight, so I'm off to get ready. I'll see everyone tomorrow. :)

I stopped getting an Easter basket long years ago. but I still get birthday and Christmas presents, and sometimes "just because" presents.

My mom hates the holidays. I can't remember the last time we had a tree, or any of the fuss. My mom would take me shopping, or help me pick something out of a catalog and say, "This is your Christmas present." No wrapping paper or surprises (she and I agree that surprises SUCK!) or anything like that. But she waits to Christmas to get relatively big ticket items (we're talking a new expensive winter coat, not a big screen TV, that sort of "big ticket").

My sister and I share a birthday, in the spring, and my older daughter's b'day is ten days before that. So we always have a big fuss: cake, pizza, candles. Presents usually = money (because I like books for my b'day, and Mom knows better than to try and buy books for me), but that's still counts.

No frills, but still counts as presents.

Critter in wall came back tonight... at about the same time. I found my rubber mallet and banged on the wall a lot. I'm hoping if I make the space unappealing, it'll move out.

I don't think it's bats... they should be out and about, right? I'm thinking squirrel or chipmunk. Mice shouldn't be making that much noise.

Bah.

I think I'm going to have to talk to my doctor sometime next week about my sleeping habits (or lack thereof and inability to do so). I already have a good idea of what the cause is—and if I'm correct, there's nothing I'm really going to do about it—but it's always good to be sure.

But as long as my brain refuses to sleep, I shall be a good woman and fetch pictures of female characters from science-fiction for my woman. =^_^=
