1142 words for me and wrapped the current chapter.

The WIP stands at 18,006. I'm going to push on tomorrow and hopefully hit 20k.

Excellent, all! I especially appreciate hearing about deleted words. I think I write about 4 for each word I keep, sigh.

I have actual words tonight: 1028. I should be reading the rest of my beta feedback, but I've been itching to do the new prologue, so I took a feedback break to start it. I expect it'll be about 2K when it's done - and then I can begin carving off the unnecessary stuff. I don't know how it'll ultimately go, but it's a MUCH better place to start the story.

Well done everyone!

I've been a bad, bad writer. I don't have any excuse, I've just been lazy. Going to have a lot of :Coffee: and do a lot of :e2BIC: over the next few days to make up for it.

Yay for those who have words! :e2cheer:

Thank you, everyone. Still having issues, but I have determined that it's not a migraine. Confused? Let me explain.

i have paralyzed eye muscles that normally lead to double vision. I was born with this, and apparently it's very rare. I remember on Sunday turning my head and feeling pain in my left eye. However, my migraines usually settle behind one eye and that's why I assumed it was a migraine. Although the vertigo has stumped me. Anyhow, no migraine meds touched it, nor did motrin and other OTC pills. I suspect I strained a muscle. My mom thinks the paralyzed eye muscles make it more likely to happen.

So...still the same. Trying to rest my eye. I did write up some notes for my revision coming up.

/end thread hijack

:Hug2: That's awful. :( I hope the resting is helping.

Well done everyone!

:Hug2: Lazy is a perfectly valid excuse in my world!

So yesterday I managed to get through the final (yes, final. It's over. I can't take any more) draft of my synopsis before a migraine hit. It was a doozy. But synopsis: done. :hooray: Thank you hugely to muse. :e2flowers

I'm with HJ on this one, franky_s, lazy is a perfectly valid excuse. I was a little lazy yesterday, no writing, but I did do some plotting.

WTG, HJ! I know that must feel good! :D

Well, I did get some writing in this morning/afternoon and managed 781 words. Not a huge number, however, I did top 50K on the WIP! :hooray: Now stands at 50,125!

An alleged 139 words, but that's a lie. I cut lots. There's got to be at least 250 new words in there. There was also a re-ordering of scenes. More of which will be cut, but not today.

More actual words: 1045 of them. One more night and I'll have the new prologue, then I'll go back to organizing feedback. The prologue will need to sit a bit before I go back and edit, but I can tell already I'm taking a bit too long to get into what I actually want to say. Ah, well - finish first, hack to bits later!

774 new words today.

More than that really, but that's my net gain. I'm still working on the first few opening scenes, and it took me a few days to figure out how I wanted to fix a rather flat second scene. Today I got to create a public disturbance and introduce two of my eventual suspects, so it's all good.

Slow going at the beginning.

No words yesterday or Saturday evening. Y'all think I'm lazy?

Saturday
early am writing session
Work 10-3
lunch break spent rushing over to friend's birthday party for 15 mins
Work 4-7
Husband's first music gig in 20 years 7p to 10p
Glass of wine with family (note lack of dinner)
Pass out

Sunday
About the same except morning family time plus I got to have lunch. After work, I was so exhausted I decided to watch Downton Abbey. Um, so a half season later...

Blame Thomas for my lack of words.

I did put in just a few this morning. 367. Bad writer.

*pokes head in*

Still the same, but I have an appt with a specialist on Thursday.

I managed to write 980 words before the vertigo did me in. I call that a win. :D

THANK YOU for all of your thoughts, vibes, and encouragement.

1592 words for today which brings my WIP to 20,018 words!

Hitting 20K feels so good. Now wanting to hit 40K - maybe by the end of this month.

Excellent, excellent, excellent everybody! Saoirse, good to hear you've got an appointment, and amazing that you got words in as well.

I finished my new prologue and did some editing, so in total I added about 400 words today. BUT I also removed a chapter toward the end, which has brought the total word count under 110K.

A whole chapter. Ack. I feel like I hacked my arm off...but I think it's possible the story is better this way. I may sneak tiny bits of information back in here and there, but maybe not. I don't know yet; I have to stop weeping uncontrollably first.

Yesterday I wrote about 1,300 words and by that time, I have completed a chapter and a half of my novel, which is in the second draft.

528 new words, finishing the first chapter. I may have to do some plotting before I add new words, because I have no idea where chapter two starts.

Saoirse, I hope the appt. goes well. I can't imagine how hard it must be to write that way. Iamwriter GREAT word count. And Liz, I sometimes think cutting is as beneficial, or more so, than adding words.

Awesome day for me. only about 320words, but a big plot breakthrough. Have a great write everyone!

Good luck with the appointment, Saoirse.:Hug2:

I'm still editing, and skirting around finishing my WIP. I honestly have no idea why I'm so reluctant to write the ending.

:Hug2:, Saoirse, keeping you in my prayers.

Liz, while chopping up the WIP is painful, at times it is necessary. This too shall pass.

Plotting can be fun, BfloGal. I especially love it when my mind comes up with something out of left field. :D

Don't you just love it when things come together, Lucie? :snoopy:

muse, everything must come to an end. It's the circle of life. You must let it go.:e2cry:

WTG, Mr.Mitchell!

Alas and alack, I am without wordage these past two days. It's been a crazy time at the day job and no respite from the flood of calls and server issues. It doesn't help that our main office in Nashville is moving to new quarters next week! Ack! I hope to get a few words tonight, after dinner. Wish me luck.

Thank you, everyone. Still hanging in there.

827 words today.

muse, I find that I somehow always subconsciously find ways to delay finishing a WIP. It has almost become a ritual for me. With my current WIP, I projected 120k at the highest. It's now heading for 130k b/c I don't seem to want to end the book. Hopefully I can stop this madness and finish it soon. :D I'm sure you will, too. Resist! Resist!

Well, I bit the bullet and read the last of the beta feedback that I have today. This was a critique written by my aunt and uncle, who are the only published authors who read for me (although they wrote children's books, and it's been possibly 15 years since they wrote anything). They are always very positive, even with criticism, which is nice, and they said a lot of things that were helpful - they picked on pacing and voice in various places, and I think fairly.

What's interesting is that they also gave me a few bits of feedback I disagree with. Not strongly - they're matters of opinion - but I think I'm unlikely to make many changes in those areas. There was one particular bit they thought was far too subtle, to the point that they were confused. Confusion is never good in a reader, so I'm turning it over in my head; but I kept the point subtle for a reason. It's a point of character, but not of plot, and I think making it more obvious would be suggesting it has more importance than it does.

Plus I thought it was insanely obvious, and I don't want to spell it out more clearly!

Overall, though, I'm surprised and pleased to find so much agreement in the beta feedback I've had. I have a pretty clear picture now of what I need to do next. Doing it will be challenging, of course - but I have a roadmap.

Good work everyone!

I got a couple of hundred yesterday - not sure how many in the end cos I was rewriting a chunk I did earlier this week.
