Although bitching and moaning about insensitive editors, haughty agents and the hurry-up-and-wait agonies of publishing is a time-honoured tradition -- one must be mindful of a couple of things:

Editors, agents and publishers have access to the internet too. They can, and do, read what is said about them. They talk among themselves. They kibbitz at cons and gnaw rubber chicken together at seminars and book shows.

They remember names. And don’t think your nickname is an effective cloaking device. Nicks are poor defenders of one’s 3D identity. If someone wants to find out who you are, they can.

By all means, name names and point fingers if you come across behaviour that is illegal or unethical but if you’ve “only” suffered the usual slings and arrows of this outrageous business, show some discretion. The bridge you’re burning now may have been perfect for your next opus.

Lastly, every writer can benefit by experiencing the view from the other side of the desk. Set aside a little time. Clean your reading glasses. You just might save your career by reading Slushkiller.
