Yeah, i think if i had the kinds of book available to me when i was in school, i would have grown up an avid reader. As it is, i didn't really fall in love with reading until my mid 30's. How sad is that???
Ember, this gets into the whole controversy about douche-y male characters. It kind of scares me as I learn more and more about what kind of stuff is out there and how the younger (true YA) audience is able to so easily look past a guy who is controlling or jealous, or possessive, or stalker-ish, or even sometimes a little violent physically or verbally towards a girl and he's still seen as "hot". I just read the book Hush, Hush and it scares the shit out of me that young girls think Patch is so hot and can totally overlook the fact that he was such a blatant jerky douche or that he was following her everywhere she went or that he slammed her up against a hotel wall and the MC the whole time couldn't fight how attracted she was to him??? Because, OMG he's so HOTTTTTT.
NOTTTTTTTTTT
I know, i know. it's just a story, right?
but it's interesting that the girls in the younger age groups were all like HE'S HOT and the older ones recognize he's a jerk (even though they were able to forgive it--sigh).
