I have to write a poem
by: Rianne

I have to write a poem
But I'm not sure how
Maybe I’ll make a rhyme
With something dumb like cow!

So I’ll write about a cow
But that’s too commonplace
I’ll just have to make her be
A cow from outerspace!

She’ll need a helmet
and a space suit and a ship
And of course she’ll have a blaster
set upon her hip!

She’ll hurtle through the galaxy
On meteoric flights
To battle crazy aliens
In big karate fights!

She’ll duel with light sabers
And avoid some lava spray
To vanquish evil emperors
And always save the day!

I hope you like my tale
Of amazing astro cow
That is the poem that I’ll write
As soon as I learn how!

That's lovely - she's got more than a little of her mom's voice and sense of humor. She wows me, though, with her very deft start and end: the poem takes off, and it lands, cleanly and solidly. That doesn't just happen, and I'm well impressed.

The meter is really strong, but it feels very natural - no klunky bits to stick out.

I'm charmed and full of admiration. Well done, young bard.

fantastic work and, as rob said, clean and tight.

hope she will continue to explore the poetry inside herself.

Thanks guys! I really loved it and thought that it was very clever - even when I tried to pretend we weren't related. She's got a gift for words and I've seen it more than a few times.

I only remembered a few days ago, this thread I posted from ummmm how many years ago on just about the first words she ever wrote that I saw:

She was six years old.

Really enjoyed it. Brightened up a dark rainy day. Shel would have been happy with it too.
