Is the Greasy bit new? Or have I been exposed to censored redacted stories?

*anthropological minds want to know*

Oh, that took me back! When my kids were little, they loved Kipling's Just So stories. I can't remember which one of them added the 'greasy' bit, but we always called it that from then on. I think it might have been my youngest daughter - she likes alliterations. So yes, the greasy bit is not original. :D But probably quite an accurate description of it now.

In God I dwell, especially in Eugene OR
Sat Nam! (Literally "Truth Name"--a Sikh greeting)

When I was little, back half a century ago, Mom read us Kipling, and I remember clearly, "Great, green, greasy Limpopo River, all set about with fever trees." So, I'm guessing I either heard it wrong, or "greasy" is original (pre-PC).

Blessings,

Siri Kirpal

Awww, love the new avvie, AC!

I just took a Zycam. Tastes like morning breath. Super gross, and you are not supposed to eat or drink for fifteen minutes after. Bleh

I think you're right, because we, everyone in my elementary school, went crazy over the words. For weeks for months until our parents couldn't take it any more and we had to stop.

Besides how could Kippling have missed using the word greasy in the rhythm of the thing? No one thought it was by J. Conrad, did they? No, I didn't think so.

We had ice here this morning. A State Trooper crashed his vehicle (they think it was caused by a medical emergency), then the fire truck sent to the scene slid off the road in to the trooper's car. The trooper died, but they don't think it was because of the crash itself.

oh no...you mean the trooper himself was having a medical emergency? I hate hearing that law enforcement has been hurt/killed.

Yep. I checked it out. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limpopo_River (Look in the History paragraph.)

'Greasy' is correct. Obviously my kids remembered it better than I did.

The exact centre of all of existence
I'm back from the BBQ. Which happened to turn into 11 hours with family. It was too much for little ol' me...

I only got through it because we spent about 3 or 4 hours playing cards, in 2 big stretches. With cards, I know where I am. No need to join the small talk - I just say things when it's my turn, such as "Pass that card" or "Can't do any more" or whatever, and then it's someone else's turn, and they become the focus of attention.

That works for me. :)

Morning house of the carefully chosen words. :)

That's awful about the trooper, ac. :(

What's everyone doing today? We were supposed to kayak, but instead I'm going into the church to supervise (and I do use the term loosely) some painting.

I need to clean the kitchen today. I usually watch a couple of cooking shows on PBS later in the morning.

My sister-in-law is coming in, but our plans got changed because of the weather yesterday.

I spent last night in the heidelberg station hotel. Dr. Mrs. Rob was on her way home from a course, but was so ill by the time she got in that the hotel was the furthest I could get her.

Poor Dr. Mrs. Rob!

Luckily, jazz cures everything!
