Anyone written a mini mystery for Woman's World magazine?

I did some research on writing for them and gave it a shot so I'm curious to know if anyone else has had success with Woman's World.

I've had a couple of rejections, both noting my mystery required too much thinking or knowledge. They didn't phrase it that way, but I needed to dumb it down for them. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a decent way to do that for either concept.

I hear it's a very competitive market, since it pays so well. But I do remember somebody here at AW saying she(?) sold to them.

Good luck with yours.

Maryn, who should perhaps try again

Yes, it needs to be kept simple so the reader can easily solve the mystery. The ones I read weren't difficult at all so tried to keep it in that vein. I also went with something humorous and a small cast of quirky characters that could be repeated. At $500 for less than 700 words I just had to give it a try.

I can't remember any more--what kind of response time do they have? I'm wanting to see how you fare.

Maryn, fingers crossed*

Online 'zine Over My Dead Body! is another market for solve-it-yourself minis. 1c/word, so you won't get rich at 700 or so words, but OMDB! is a long-running, well-regarded mystery 'zine that pays writers and is free to readers.

They say to be patient as turnaround time can be anything from one to six months. Ugh.
Could be a long wait. Will post their response here, when and if I get one!

I've had one (handwritten!) rejection so far. The format of the stories is pretty awkward, but I do hope to try again.

How long did it take before they responded? It's been over a month and so far nothing.
Yes, the format is awkward and if you write something for them you really can't use it anywhere else but I thought it was worth a shot.
