Hi all,
Hope you're having a good day.

OK so I'm about to submit to an agent who wants the first 3 chapters - but my book is not really written like that. It's more like 'sections', and the first few are less than a page each. I see no point in sending 3 pages in.

What's a good protocol here?
Send: First 5,000 words, first 10 pages, or first 30 pages?
That's what lots of other agents ask for.

What do you think would be most appropriate? (I will explain why I've sent X amount in the covering letter).

Many thanks.

30/50 pages is the rule of thumb, I think? Just pick somewhere that stops at an exciting bit where they'll be desperate to ask for more :)

I'd suggest sending in an approximation of three chapters (ie. The number of pages that three chapters would generally equate to).

In God I dwell, especially in Eugene OR
Sat Nam! (literally "Truth Name"--a Sikh greeting)

Send 30-50 pages, stopping at a good exciting break point. And yes, do explain why.

Blessings,
