Remind me never to open a bottle at your house unless I'm sure what's in it!

I second those who suggest early orthodontia can save you if it's done well. The Kid, who has a lovely smile, required chains--literal chains--to haul down those migrated teeth which wanted to erupt through the roof of her mouth. She also had a Herbst appliance for a while. Kid Two had this swirl of wires in the roof of his mouth which enlarged his upper jaw so his teeth would fit in it. He, too, has a good smile.

Maryn, whose smile is cynical

Kill all extraneous expenses--but NOT the internet. It's the only way to apply for jobs now. Just ask Mr. Lily.

Winter's here. Resort to sealing your windows with plastic wrap, but don't turn down the heat too much--it's too easy to crash your immune system that way.

If your freezer has room, buy lots of chicken, beef, pork when it's on sale, portion it and freeze it.

Fresh veggies are killer in the winter, so don't neglect the vitamins.

Update your resume. Any chance of getting a good recommendation from Boss Boss? Work on the spin you'll have to give interviewers when they ask why you left your last job. Head to the employment agencies with that updated resume. [really unwanted advice follows]: Dress like a corporate drone when you go there. Jacket and tie.

Good luck!

Caleb, are you a drinkin' man? I have a case of wine, some of it decent stuff. Let's see what kind of dent we can make in it today, because tomorrow you've got to get going.

One day to rage, though, is good for you.

i'm still in a mood. *sighs* well, not
in a mood to write. after i told caleb to.
ha!

will be chatting for the anthology today
at 5pm cali time 8pm eastern if anyone
is around on twitter.

now i must rally and psyche myself up
in writing a sequel where the first book
is currently being rejected. pretty sure very
few writers attempt this. i wouldn't
suggest it either. ha!

cindy, always stubborn but usually more
practical than this =)

Thank you everyone. I'm very torn at the moment. Part of me is utterly relieved that this farce is over. The other part is stressed as all hell.

I've been sitting here reactivating my online profiles with temp agencies. I'll probably call them tomorrow and setup appointments. I may put an ad out to rent out my spare two rooms. Doing so would allow me to take on a lesser paying job and broaden the available jobs to me... Still tossing that idea around in my head.

And...

I move forward.

Snappy, LASIK was the scariest 3 minutes of my entire life, but I love-love-love the results. LOVE. It took 8 years post-LASIK before I needed reading glasses, and I'm still in the lowest numbers of those.

That being said, it was wicked expensive and insurance didn't cover any of it. My only issue is that my vision haloes at night and when I'm really tired.

Otherwise, LOVE.

Showering while being able to actually see my feet? Totally worth it. Running/riding/hiking without getting something in the lens or having it flip up backwards (which happened twice) and get stuck? Totally worth it.
Getting up with the babies in the middle of the night, and not having to worry about finding my glasses or tripping over something I didn't see? Totally worth it.
See where I'm going with this? : )

I have two gallons of mead on the floor over here that have finished settling out. Might have to open those up.

Re Lasik: How long does it typically last? I know that at some point, you will need corrective lenses again (like Lily said)

caleb, sounds like a plan!
good luck!!

yeah, i'm not into the lasik
thing. i actually love my glasses.
i hated them when i was younger but
now, they are my favorite accessory and
i hide behind them. great way to cover
up dark circles. ha!

and yes, depending on age (or maybe
it doesn't even matter) your eye sight
will change and you'll wind up wearing glasses
anyway.

my vision is around 3 in nearsightedness.
so not terrible. and i'll wear glasses forever.

((((Caleb)))) I second what Lily said about the internet.

My good news of the day: got my first comment back on my ARCs, from an author friend, but still: "And btw ... Fr0nt Page F@tality is rocking my world. Stayed up waaaay too late last night reading it!"

Since I have often daydreamed of writing something worthy of keeping folks awake at night, I am appropriately warm-fuzzied for the day. :)

and it might sound weird but
i enjoy NOT seeing the world clearly
when i choose to. like i don't wear
glasses at the gym and i love it. the
world is nicely subtley blurred, and i need
that sometimes.

Yay, lwalker!

Re LASIK: I got it when I was 41. I was told that eventually I'd need reading glasses. My eyes were terrible--my glasses looked like Coke bottles. Plus wearing them hurt, and wearing contact lenses hurt, and I was tired of my eyes hurting all the time.

I saw perfectly for about 8 years, and then went to magnification 1.00 readers. Now I switch between 1.00 and 1.25, depending.

Mr Lily, who had LASIK when he was 50, was told that he might need reading glasses right away, because of his eyes' age. He didn't for about 6 years.

He's close to the point of possibly getting a tweak to his eyes, which they also said might be an option down the road.

We still love it.
