and the rejectionalanche continues...

Out of town for 3 days and got 2 more R's, Clockwork Phoenix - 13 days, and Lightspeed - 2 days. I think that makes 6 R's in the past week. Maybe crickets aren't so bad after all.

So, the crickets have turned into something else. I have a story at a mag that says not to query before 60 days, but 2% of their subs take longer per Duotrope.

Should I query now, or wait a week? I've never had to query before, usually the R comes right on schedule...

If it were more like 20% I'd say wait, but 2% is nothing. Query. You'll feel better for it.

Proud of you all, especially the rejectalanche folks. Dogged persistence is one of the best tools to have in the writer toolkit, and in the end the rejections will make the sales that much sweeter..

Sooner rather than later, though, right? :)

Clarkesworld 5-day R! A rejecto-trickle, but still not fun.

Does anyone know if Electric Velocipede's form R includes a bit that reads "hope you'll keep us in mind for the future"? The rest certainly feels like a form, but it did come from John Kilma. Although, their form could be signed as such.

FWIW my rejection contained that language as well.

49 subs out. Only two R's this week. ANOTHER higher tier from One Story (starting to think their higher is their form now) as well as the WR one. Really, really quiet in my inbox.

49! That's inspiring! Thanks for the new goal, Project Deadlight. :)

I had a few unreported R's a week + ago, then some dead time. Just got an R from Asimov's. It was expected, but I'm hoping this isn't the start of a rejectolanche...

Do you know how many days it was "under review" before they cut you loose?

After a week of silence, tonight I just got a 42-day form reject from Flash Fiction Online followed by a 675-day personal reject from Tor.com

Forgive me if I seem short of breath.

Did you still remember that you'd sent them the story? Must be the longest rejection wait ever!

Sympathies for all the rejections everyone.

and the icing on my rejectionalanche -- 155 day from Indigo Press. That's the market that pushed back the sub deadline and then the response deadline so that I missed another market. Sigh. Nothing's ever a given in this game, but for a couple of reasons, I had been thinking my story had a good shot here.
(My grand total...drum roll, please... 11 R's in 9 days.)

Yep. I queried at 444 days and was seriously thinking about withdrawing at 666 days. Since then I've been looking at it every day thinking, well, should I? Like some weird submission game of Chicken, I'm glad they flinched first.

It was a really nice and deeply personal rejection, so that's helped. And I'm excited to get to sub this story again, I really love it.
