I'm currently reading a book about the 1864 Shenandoah Valley campaign. It's a lot more tactical and nuts-and-bolts-y than anything I've read before. I like it though, because the engagements were smaller than the big-name battles you hear about. The troop movements are easier to visualize, and there is a smaller cast of characters so we get to know a little about all of them. I like the more intimate treatment. There are a few really interesting stories in there.
