Writing/parenting. I'm close to full time on the time side during school and camp (with near zero time for the last five weeks of summer and other vacations), but not the money side (No where near it here).

I'm starting my PhD program in September. I feel the same way about politics, as you do about science. I plan on teaching and writing after I finish, but who knows.
Good to see some scientists in the group. I'm a professor of Biology/Neuroscience, and wear a second hat as a Marine Biologist (research on neural control of locomotion in a couple of marine critters). I went through the professorial ranks (Assistant, Associate, Full) in 24 years at a PAC-10 school (now PAC-12), then found a new challenge with an endowed professorship at a smaller East Coast school with an excellent reputation in Marine Science. I've been here 7 years. I'm closing in on my career goal of 100 scientific publications. I didn't start writing fiction until I was 50. No science fiction for me, I guess my neuroscience background has thrust me into my current interest - psychological suspense.
I'm also a part-time single parent, with an adult child and two young 'uns, the oldest of the latter about to enter the teens. So, I have to manage a house, inside and out, and make sure the two youngest get a healthy dose of Daddy-ing.

I'm a remote desktop engineer, more commonly known as Tier 2 or Level 2 tech support. I work from Scotland to fix IT problems on PCs across the UK and sometimes further afield.

It's really great to see folks from different areas joined together by a common passion. We can learn a lot from one another.
Neuroscience is my concentration track! (My university has tracks within the majors.)

Used to teach little kids, Kindergarten was my absolute favorite. . .it ain't sellin' porn on the internet but tell you what, it's kick-ass crazy. I loved it.

It could be worse. I don't have to talk to customers, I'm not really monitored by the higher-ups, and my team has a dirty/snarky sense of humor that brightens up my day.
