I am also new, but I know a few things. If anyone has questions about ornithology, endocrinology, ceramics or small-scale metalworking, I could be of help.

I have knowledge of Latin, the language, not the culture. I have a pretty good, solid grasp of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology... ask and I shall answer. Also, need information on the end of the Roman Republic and the start of the Roman Empire? I am your source.

I can assist with two things as I have experienced them.

Living with a hearing disability.

Grieving/bereavement. I lost my mother over a year ago very unexpectedly.

So if you are looking for insight on what it feels like to lose someone very close, I can help explain what I felt, but remember it is a different experience for everyone.

So feel free to send me a PM. :)

Here are some areas I can help folks in:

1. South East Asia: Born, raised and currently living in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

2. Living in the US as a foreigner: I lived in the US for 6 years in SF and LA California and a year in Dallas Texas. So I can help with foreigner visas (student and work like H1B etc...) and culture shock.

3. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: I've been doing this hobby for 5 years and I compete a fair bit.

4. MMA: I don't train MMA but I know plenty of people who do because my BJJ gym is also a MMA gym. My coach is also a OneFC and Shooto Brazil fighter.

5. Advertising industry: I currently work in the advertising industry in KL and use to work in SF and Dallas.

Hiya, probably don't have much unique except that I'm a professional wildlife rehabilitator and oil spill responder. Happy to field questions on these as careers, how wildlife rescue and care works in the US, specifics on working in a response, and general natural history, behavior, animal husbandry/medical care questions about most North American wild birds & mammals (including seals, but not other marine mammals). Note that this is for writing purposes only, I can't legally enable someone without a permit to keep & care for a wild animal.

Lived in MI, Ontario, FL, WA, CA

And I own chinchillas, if you need details on adorable fluffbunnies.

I could say I am quite an expert on the Vatican as I worked as a tour guide there. Also Italian language, food (also from region to region) and Italian culture.
I am also quite an expert on the subject of concentration camps, the deportation of Jews to labour or death camps during world war II and life in the ghettos.
My fields also include bear attacks and shark attacks on humans.
Famous murders and the history of Red Brigades in Italy.

4.) Higher Education in Canada

5.) Hunting questions

6.) Basic Rifle/Shotgun questions (not military)

9.) My mom had breast cancer when I was 8 and had to leave for several months for treatment and has been in poor health for most of my life.

10.) Crazy family drama - my grandmother sued my parents and basically tried to put us out on the street.

The here and now
  1. Horses. Breeds. Training to competitions, handling, care, etc. I don't know much about western as I only do English. (20 yrs working with, riding, and training horses)
  2. Rescue animals, after they've left the shelter. From continued treatment to dealing with permanent injuries and psychological issues. (Most my animals are rescue)
  3. autism. My brother deals with it. Day to day matters, effects of school and work. He's considered 'high-functioning'.
  4. a bit on falconry. I have a red tailed hawk and a peregrine falcon. Rules are different depending on where you live. Handling and care, as well as equipment and management. Mine were trained when I got them but I do have a sort of list of things I'm supposed to do so they don't lose that training... Or ignore what they've been taught.
  5. free-running & parkour. Yes there is a difference although only slight. I can explain from my own experience from knowing nothing to low-intermediate. Set up for certain movements, traction and shoes, limitations and how to prep for new movements, how to 'hit' obstacles to get the desired effect (ie. wall run. Going up the wall and not hitting it or slipping down.) I also have a group I run with once a week that I can use to answer questions above my level.
  6. injuries from the perspective of someone who frequently finds herself injured from a love of danger and absolutely no sense of self preservation. Put it his way, half my body is being supported by metal. There is a different way people who get frequently injured deal with it then someone who's never broken anything and suddenly snaps their collarbone. Graphic injuries don't bother me at all (try having to explain to a walk in nurse you need them to call an ambulance and no you can't come in and do it yourself. Why? Because you have a giant wooden piece of fence in your side and can't fit through the door.)
  7. adrenaline response from a thrill seeker who does literally anything to feel that adrenaline high.
  8. bungee jumping (someone else sets me up), rock climbing without the damn equipment, throwing oneself out of a plane (tandem jumps) for fun. Cliff diving (from the perspective of someone who is both afraid of heights and loves them more then is probably healthy), urban climbing, and pretty much any pastime that involves poking the grim reaper with his own scythe for entertainment.
  9. adrenaline junkie, addicted to the thrill. Managing fear. And yes, it is very much an addiction. I get ansy if I don't get to do something reckless, to the point where I see a crane and think 'I gotta climb this now'.
  10. living with parents who had high expectations but were continuously disappointed when I couldn't care less about the high paid office job and a lot more about 'wasting my intelligence' on reckless sports and horses.
  11. coming from a military family, with all the pressures of joining, and totally refusing. (No offense to those who do, I certainly appreciate and support but it just isn't my thing)
  12. having major authority issues and the fallout and consequences (because someone always has something to say)
  13. the many many ways one can get suspended or expelled from school and the expected length of time for certain actions.
  14. other stuff I'm sure, but can't think off right now.

History major, mainly Western history, particularly English history. (The wives of Henry VIII especially.)

I was raised by a teacher, was an education major at one point, and many other relatives who are teachers. So I know what the job entails, job description and such. Rules, restrictions, the lingo.

I know some information about neopaganism in a general sense. Also witchcraft. Less knowledge about Wicca, but it's there.

Greek mythology, some Roman mythology.

Evangelical Christianity.

Semi-obscure grammar rules.

Updating my listing here. :)

My area of expertise is horses. Most specifically, three day eventing and Pony Club. I am a British Horse Society certified instructor, spent many years riding through the lower levels (through Preliminary) of three day eventing, rode with members of the Dressage and Eventing Olympic teams, ran a 50 horse barn for 10 years. I am currently in the process of obtaining my event judge certification. I've also worked with Thoroughbred racehorses on and off the track. My three kids are all members of the United States Pony Club and my oldest daughter is on the International games exchange team for 2009. Now, if you want something specific in western riding or ranch work, I am not the person to ask. However, if it involves dressage, eventing or Pony Club, I'm there! Racing is a bit more tentative, as I have been on the fringes of that, but I can probably help a bit. :D

Adding to update for 2014 - I now compete my pony in mounted games. I also have experience with adopted retired racing greyhounds. And pet snakes. I have a Goffin Cockatoo as well. Lots of pets. :)

Live in New Hampshire. Have lived in New England almost all my life, most of that in New Hampshire. Can help with New Hampshire related questions.

I'm pretty good at camping. Pretty good at driving a truck and trailer, but not a tractor trailer, just a regular vehicle. Drive between New England and PA and MD regularly.

Work in a library. Want to know about the Dewey Decimal System? :D

Drop a PM if you need help with:

* Pretty much anything textile crafting related (knitting, spinning, crochet, embroidery, clothing construction, etc)

* Singing (broadway style or opera) I know a little bit of music theory, if you're desperate and can't find anyone else. If I don't know the answer, I'll know how to get it.

* Middle school teacher stuff (my husband is the teacher, but I can probably get answers from him)

* The role-playing game community (regulars at game stores and what generally goes on there, tabletop groups, Magic players, vampire LARP, online groups, etc)

* The dirty underbelly of politics (my expertise is mostly in California state politics, and is probably pretty out of date, but a lot of it carries over)

I was an EMT for many years, seen it all. Also have a large general medical knowledge base in addition to emergency medicine. Have worked at crime scenes and worked closely with police and firefighters.

Also have a master's in theology, so I'm able to lend a hand to that area as well.

Finally, was a journalist at one point in my career, and spent a lot of hours in the newsroom writing stories. PM me here if I can help with any of these questions.

Just a random note: Can we be friends? You sound like my kind of person. It was the practical use of melee weapons that got me, then you throw in the prepper-style skills and the travel.. :)

~ Anna, imagining all the fun stories you'd be a good character in.

I posted on here ages ago, suppose I should update it...

I'm five years into getting a Ph.D. in theoretical mathematics, with a focus in contact and symplectic topology.

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in East Africa.

Although I have no formal training in it, I've done extensive primary source research into the weirder aspects of Cold War-era nuclear history (including interviewing participants and publishing an article in the field). I may not be able to answer your question, but I can probably find people who can.

I have two bookcases of Cthulhu Mythos books and am expanding into a third.

Not sure if any of this will help anyone, but I know a few things about:

Adult ADHD
OCD
Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Food Allergies / Sensitivities / Intolerance
1/6 scale dioramas / sets / dolls / action figures
The TV show Bewitched

I'm currently writing a novel that takes place in 1988 and I'll be posting various questions that have to do with police work, stalking, and date rape in that time frame.

I don't think I can add anything to what everyone here already posted about, but a lot of the earlier posters are not still active members, so maybe this will help someone. Here's some stuff I know a little about...

history major (focus on vernacular architecture)
lived in Eastern Europe for a few years
lived in England for a few years
American married to Brit (no, we do not speak the same language...lol ;) )
cats
art minor
depression
having a baby w/o meds, breastfeeding, and all the other stuff you have to figure out in the first year of your child's life
planned a wedding in a foreign country (not destination wedding)
traveled in most countries in Eastern Europe
I've been a Christian pretty much my whole life, so I know a lot about that...
English cathedral/church architecture

not sure any of this is helpful at all, but PM me if you are interested in any of that stuff!
