I used to have a machine just like that. I inherited it from my great-grandmother when I was 7 years old. (Ooops, meant to quote the Singer machine. Ah well, the thread is nice too!).

Oh yes. Mom's sewing machine was pretty modern, but Grandma had an old one like that.
I took sewing in home economics in high school, but never got the hang of it. I did learn how to sew a button on. That was about it.
