I just heard from an author friend of mine that Amazon is talking about ending the perma-free option.

He is trying to get something in writing from them as he has several books that are perma-free now.

The gist of the this was that Amazon will start removing books that have been free for more than 5 days in any 90 day period rather than price match free books listed on other sites indefinitely.

Anyone else hear anything about this?

This would make "Free on Amazon" match their KDP Select program I suppose.

I haven't heard about this yet and I hope it isn't true. I just made one of my books (the first in my series) perma free on Amazon. It's doing much better than it did when it was in KDP select when I did the 5 days free promo.

If I were him, I wouldn't be pressing them for something in writing. Technically the technique of price-matching to permafree is against Amazon's TOS and if he pushes hard, it could make them take his book down/ban him altogether. In general, they allow price-matching to permafree but their TOS gives them the right to revoke it whenever they want.
