Finally! I got some winter bird shots. Despite the cold, I decided to plop down near one the bird feeders in the back yard and see who came to visit.

Just your plain old house sparrow.

Female northern cardinal and house sparrow. I really wanted her to come to the feeder closer to me but no luck.

Tufted titmouse peering curiously at the feeder. These guys were really hard to shoot as they don't stay put for very long.

Another curious titmouse.

songsparrow.jpg

One half of the song sparrow pair that lives in my neighbor's tree. This little guy was the most photogenic bird of them all and really easy to shoot.

This might be my favorite picture.

And finally a black-capped chickadee. I love these little birds, but much like their cousins, they're a challenge photograph.

Yay, LadyV! Thanks for those shots. I don't miss much about up north, but the antics of the titmouse and the chickadee are definitely on the list. They're so much fun to watch. :)

Great shore bird photos, Dino, and winter bird photos, LadyV. :)

Here's my own bird photo contribution... my son's biology class did a foster parent assignment by incubating eggs... the chicks were then returned to the farm (in case you were wondering..)

on the count of three... 1, 2, 3, awwwwwww!

A dark, evil place.
Returned to the farm, eh?

:D

That means I'll be finding them in my grocery store in about six weeks.

A tiger swallowtail. How pretty. I see them all the time in the summer. Maybe this year I can finally get a picture of one.

Wonderful shots, LV! Looks like you're already getting a good feel for the new camera. Hope to see more photos soon. :)

Beautiful closeup, and very dramatic as seen from that angle.

You know, black tigers are still fluttering about in my area of Florida. Monarchs are too, among other butterflies enjoying the balmy weather. :D

You just have to rub it in, don't you? ;)

Thanks, everyone. I took the photo last summer, and remember following that bugger around the yard. As you know, I like taking close-ups, but every time I got too close, it fluttered away.. I'm sure it was very annoyed with me. :D

A tarpon, just after it had been revived and released:

That one lived and swam off.

Too many times, though, I saw them sink to the bottom and die, no matter the efforts at resuscitation.

I don't fish for tarpon anymore, nor will I ever again.
