ok i have a unique thing that happened around noon yesterday. My official email got hacked and an advertisement was sent to a couple users on it.

When my email provider sent me the notice it stated ‎no**********************‎. Here is the unique thing one of the people this email was sent to by hacker was noreply@publishamerica.com. So lucky I caught it in time and reported it to email provider but kinda makes me wonder if they are hacking into the Non-compliant authors emails.

Just seemed fishy that they only sent it the publish America authors that happened to be on my contact list and others that happened to be so old that they bounced back saying can't find them

Just wanted to run it by everyone.

Jill: It's more likely that when your email was compromised, it slurped addresses from your mail account to send advertising to. Many people use spam-blockers now that won't accept mail from people who aren't in your address book... but having someone in your address book (or having multiple emails from them) indicates that you probably correspond with them and thus, sending an email as you will probably get past their spam guards. I suspect PA's automated mails come from noreply@publishamerica.com, and thus they got included in the Giant Blob of Addresses the spam software generated.

"Noreply@publishamerica.com" is who sends all those endless advertising letters inviting you to send your book to Wal*Mart (for only a small amount of cash off your credit card).

What AlexPiper said, Jill. The bot that hacked your account is just doing its job and sending spam to any addresses it finds.

Do you have a Yahoo address? I lot of folks have had their accounts hacked lately. Two friends of mine in the last week alone. Go change your password if you haven't already.

Tons of LinkedIn passwords were posted on a hacker board over in Eastern Europe not that long ago.

If you're on LinkedIn and haven't changed your password, do so now.

Eve Thomas is on a distinguished road
Hi
I just wanted to say a quick hello and share some fabulous news with you. My second novel, Choices-The Darker Years has received a very welcoming response up to now. It is due to commence publication tomorrow and I am very excited because earlier tonight I received a telephone call from Women's Refuge. I wanted to donate a percentage of my books revenue to this marvellous charity that helps hundreds of women every year escape from violence. The Director is having a meeting on Monday to discuss this further. I'm elated and hope that Refuge allow me to support them. It may not make them millions but every penny it raises will help this outstanding charity.

Thank you all so much for your kind words but most of all the knowledge you allowed me to gain.

Hope you are all having a marvellous weekend.

Eve x

In case anyone was wondering what this has to do with PA ... Ms. Thomas' first book was published with them. She is now self-publishing the sequels.

And since this is self-promotion rather than discussion, I'm moving it to Overflow.

Eve, I've noticed you've gone back and deleted almost all of your posts at the request of PA. I don't know how often this has happened here at AW, but it sounds par for the course.

As far as your new release goes, who are you publishing with? Have you given PA the right of first refusal, as mentioned above?
