I think if I tried to write for competitions, I'd never get anything else done. There sure are a lot of them!

I know and lots of entry fees as well! I wouldn't make a habit of it but I'd like to give one a go, just for the challenge and to be able to say I'd done it.

Mmm. I don't think I'd enter any with entrance fees... Too much like gambling for my tastes. (I don't gamble.)

I'll just have to plod along with submissions to agents. Longer wait times, but hey, what can you do?

I write YA, so I'm really looking forward to the CYA conference in Brisbane. They have a writing competition attached and last year I got great feedback, so finished or not I'm submitting some of my manuscript to get feedback on it.

I'm really hoping I do well in the UnValentine's competition. It's a comedy thing, and the novel I'm planning on submitting soon is also a comedy. So yeah... Winning this comp could be a good writing credit for my novel.

Not as good as saying, "Oh, yeah, I've had X books published already with Y number of sales." But I presently have 0 writing credits, so I'll take anything I can get.

And as far as I know, AW is respected in the industry... So it might help.

Yes, I do write it, and I actually find it quite fun to write.

Mmm, it is fun.

I'm a bit repressed though (I blame my family) so the actual sex scenes make me feel all, "OMG what if someone knew I wrote this?! OMG! Dire!" It passes as soon as the scene is over, and I generally have a "Who cares that I've written some sex?" attitude... But there's still that mental hangup while writing the sex scenes themselves.

And when I say I'm repressed... Not in any philosophical way, just a general "OMG family cannot know I have a sexuality!" sort of thing.

Hell, even in my Gender And Sexuality class at Uni, which I had today, I still can't bring myself to admit that I enjoy porn. It's just got this unmentionable stigma attached to it, which I hate.

In all seriousness, though, it really does knock down some of the taboos that have been built up unnecessarily. And highlights just how many women love to read smutty books in private.

Mmm, there's nothing wrong with erotica in my eyes. It's just sometimes when writing a steamy scene, I feel a little out of sorts... Which is 100% on the societal stigmas, if you ask me.

Erm, I mean, I've been doing Camp NaNo alongside all my Uni homework, and am at about 10k of a 20k goal, so right on schedule. It is, of course, yet another new story...

I've been working on my query letter for TEC, but I hate hate hate query letters, so that's kind of... stalled. I need to just suck it up and post the new version in QLH, let it get ripped to shreds, and pick up my broken ego again, rinse, repeat.

Really need to get TEC out on sub! I think it's a strong novel, but it may be a hard sell (comedic urban fantasy).

In any event, Uni has been taking up most of my time. Bah! I guess it's for a good cause - at the end I may get a reasonable-paying job doing something more interesting than retail and less taxing than labouring.

Hey, mccardey - I've been meaning to ask you something. I have no clue about France, especially its weather, but did you get snow while you were over there?

The subject of snow just came up in another thread, and I was doing my usual thing of bitching that we don't get it in Australia. Then I remembered you'd just been to France!

Cliff - we got this much snow in the village, which was just the most beautiful thing: but we got this much snow when we went to Switzerland - and it was incredible!

Australia really should have more snow. We'd love it!

Most of the threads I post in on AW, there'll be a massive discussion overnight for me to read through, then once I'm awake, everybody else is asleep, so I'm talking to myself.

Well, some people keep odd hours, so there's always someone around somewhere, but yeah - I kind of want to stay up all night one night and see how much fun it is to chat on AW while all the foreigners are going strong.
