What Squibnocket said. I know people who work for PayPal, and I've had it confirmed that the censorship pressure on online markets is coming primarily from the payment processing side of the equation.

The reporters figure in when they discover something as salacious as dinosaur porn, and the payment processors get wary of being boycotted and singled out by conservative business partners and users.

Not where Google thinks.
I couldn't think of a better place to ask than this thread... but I'm new to actually buying books on Kindle, and darnnit, I want to find this adult category that all these delightful erotica stories are getting shuttled off into.

Where is it?

I mean, exactly, where is it? I've scoured the search options, even gone in by title and reverse searched by category.. but I'm only finding "romance" erotica.

I'm specifically looking for dark erotica. The type with questionable themes that tend to get banned/dropped from the main listings.

So how do you find them, without a specific title in mind?

Any and all advice is much appreciated.

I'd be interested, too, since I satisfy my really dark reading needs off other sites than Amazon.

Okay.. now I have to beg for links.

I only know like two sites, and while one has some halfway decent writing on it, the other is very amateur stuff, and it's terribly inconsistent.

I want novels -- not just little snacks.

Pretty please.

The only sites I know of are All Romance Ebooks (erotica category) and Smashwords, but most you'll find there are "little snacks". I guess just browse around those two sites until you find something with the word count you're looking for.

What I'm finding is that most, not all, erotica authors write short stories and novellas. This includes all genres of erotica.

Another idea, I'm not familiar with any sites so I can't help with links, but what about sites that cater to adult fiction that you read online? Sure, most of that would be very amateur, but you might be able to find a gem or two or three?

Fallen, are you around? You have some dark erotica pub links, I believe. Kuwi might, too, if he's watching. (hi, Kuwi)

I had some thoughts on this but - no. Not happening here. This is the public board, and that's info I'd hesitate to share on the NC17 area. Sorry, thedark. I'll PM you later.

It's growing increasingly difficult on Amazon. They've never had an erotica section, because, of course, they don't want the conservatives to know they sell it. Which is dumb, but then, so what? Amazon can be dumb. It's hard to find through keywords, as well since their adult tag will hide books which have certain keywords like "anal", or have covers which are at all risque, and they've done their best to disguise the titles as well. If you know an adult writer you can type in that name and see what new they've written, or what other authors are being offered which Amazon considers to be in the same genre.

Barnes & Noble has an erotic section however, broken down into different types. Smashwords will sell just about anything, including incest, but you have to make sure your searches aren't being limited. Check the upper right corner of the blue bar to where it says "adult" and make sure it has a check next to it not a circle with a line through it. I know Smashwords has kindle compatible files. B&N might not, but once you find the titles and authors you can easily go to Amazon if you want to download them there.

Smashwords allows you to search on genre but also on size. You can click on short stories, or books over 20,000/50,000/100,000 words.

Try the eread erotica store. Sylvia Storm talks about it on her blog. I'm not sure if I can post links here, but google it and it comes up. It gives very comprehensive menus for specific genres.

Sorry, missed this, Fil! Most of the books I've searched for I've known the title beforehand, so I've never searched just for labels on Amazon, or by publisher, to be honest (although Riptide handles the likes of Flesh Cartel and Forbidden Ficion handles mine etc).

In all honesty, just from a reader's pov, the best bet I've found is to go on Goodreads and join the likes of the Depraved Mind's Club (age verification needed!). Or join the M/M depraved Mind's group on Facebook (it's a very closed group with a great bunch of people). There are readers/authors/blog reviewers in there who have dark shelves and know what's banned and what isn't.

Or look at the listopia lists on Goodreads, paying attention to Best Dark/Outside of comfort zone themes etc. :)

Oh, and the free reads from M/M Group's distrubution site! They handle eveyrhing from light romance to the very dark, and they're free. :)

There's some talk that Amazon is cracking down on erotica again. Nothing official that I can find, my Google'fo isn't the greatest, only a thread in a different forum.
