Would self publishing ever interfere with acquiring an agent?

I'm in the process of releasing a collection of short stories on kindle or Amazon or where-ever, as well as hosting them for free on my website.

My plan is to hopefully drum up some interest in my Novel, and some interest in me as an author. To that end, the short stories are all set within the same universe as my novel.

Would this ever hurt my chances of acquiring an agent? Does it create some legal oddity wherein the agent will be unable to sell the rights to my universe because I've already published stories within it? Or something to that end.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Nope, it won't be any problem at all.

If you publish your novel on your blog, or if you self publish it, that might cause problems: but publishing shorts is unlikely to have any impact at all on your likelihood of finding an agent, no matter how or where they're published.

The only way it could possibly harm you is if no l one likes the short stories. This is the only danger of self-publishing, and while it is a very real danger, it doesn't mean no one will like your stories.
