Wasn't there just a big convoy of aid that went off to the drought-stricken farmers? Why yes, there was. Our local IGA had a thing where you could buy IGA cards and send them along - that's how I know. It was good to feel that something was being done, and we could be a teensy part of it.

A sunburnt country
The support for the farming community has been amazing, but what they really need is decent rain. I am friends with a lady who runs a cattle station in NW Qld. They recently had to send 10 decks of cattle down to NSW feedlots because they just can't sustain buying in hay, salt licks and molasses for them. My friend is an avid photographer and put a photo up the other day of some calves experiencing green grass for the first time in their lives after they had 6mm of rain. It was beautiful to see.
Most the photography on my friends Facebook is set to public so if anyone wants to see what's going on up that way PM me and I can give you the link to her page.

I don't follow sports. I guess that makes me unAustralian? :tongue

Well, actually, I like tennis - but it's on so infrequently that I always wind up missing it. Don't really watch much TV anyway. (DVDs - now that's another matter!)

No it doesn't Cliff! I follow some sports, but Cricket bores the hell out of me. I will rarely sit and watch any sports apart from tennis and the occasional AFL match. My housemate loves that stuff, she is keen but I just can't get into it.
Got better things to do with my time, like WRITE! And eat Tim Tams ;)

Competition heads up

Hey everyone,

Just got this in my inbox and thought I'd share it with you:

Entries open for the Australian / Vogel's literary award for unpublished manuscripts by writers under 35 years old.

http://www.allenandunwin.com/default.aspx?page=442

Winner is published by Allen & Unwin and you could win $20K.

I really wish I had something to submit.

I'm fast running out of time before I'm locked out as well.

Interesting to note that they didn't give out the award last year because none of the entries were of the required quality.

Hey, I'm under 35!

I don't feel particularly literary though.

Luckily I've still got a few years to become the next Borges H. Joyce. I should probably work on my current ms. in the meantime.

So today I knocked out 6,000 words and FINISHED the first draft of my WIP
:hooray: :e2thud:

This was my nano novel that I started in November. It has clocked in at 95k but will be cut down with editing.

Now, where's the wine??! ;)

I seem to have arrived rather late for all the good Aussie related jokes.

I blame the Libs since they seem to blame everyone else.

That wasn't partisan at all was it?

Today has been a good day.
