Hi, my name is Ray and I'm a write-aholic.

I keep trying to send out query letters. Really I do. But then I get a new idea for a story, I scribble a little something down, and just like eating that first potato chip, I can't stop until the whole bag is gone (or the whole book is written). I've finished ten novels. Two more languish on my hard drive without the words 'the end' formally stamped onto... well, the end.

Stupid writing. Keeps trumping my urge to submit. Anyone else have that problem? Is there some kind of support-group type of forum?

Hi there, RAy! There will probably be others, who have the same problem. With me, it's a bit different. I can work on a book for like twenty years, but finally I finish it. Two years ago, I finished a book I started in 1974!

Hi back, Nickie, didn't expect a response so soon. This seems to be a busy place - kinda like Walmart on friday afternoon. Lots of noise and color and sooooo many aisles. I think I'm gonna go browse the 'Share your work' department.

Can't resist the smell of fresh-baked fiction at 2 in the morning.

Hi, Ray. Welcome to the Cooler. Congratulations on all the novels. I think you need to take some time out to do your revisions, have beta readers do their thing, revise some more, and submit. Otherwise, how can you know about flaws or weaknesses in your writing? And until you know what those are, you'll keep repeating the same mistakes, making them more ingrained.

Query letters shouldn't take long. There are some good examples in some of the forums.

Thanks for all the friendly greetings. People sure are pleasant here.

Smoothseas: I write fantasy, sci-fi, and urban fantasy for the younger markets - juvenile, YA, middle grade. The YA board on SYW seems to be a good fit. I probably will post a sample, but I do so love to critique.

Hey, Ray. I think queries are to novels as line drawings are to complete paintings. Some artists can be good at both, but most probably have a flair for one or the other. To me, writing novels is not easy. But querying agents--with the prospect of the ego bludgeonings that can result--isn't even fun. Like you, I need to make myself work at it.
Welcome to AW!

Welcome Ray!

I'm amazed by writers that can work on several (or ten) projects at a time. I chug through each one til the very end - it's all my brain can handle. :D Enjoy AW!
