Nothing wrong with blank rep points, but most people add a comment or two. *wink wink*

Smilies are good.

Again, there's nothing wrong with blank reppies, but they are kinda frustrating - for me at least.

I'll take blank, I'll take anything, I just like 'em.

Maybe we should start a thread for rep addicts?

Agree with Sara, it's nice to know why a rep is given. Feedback isn't only important on your MS, you know.

I wasn't sure if I should. I'm not familiar with rep points since I've never encountered them on other message boards I've been on. Figured I'd better start off slow since I'm new. Too much pressure! (just kiddin')

That's ok. I remember, back when I first joined, seeing my first reps and then wondering how I could see them again. I had never encountered them before, and they're one of my favorite features on AW. I use them for a lot of things: commenting on a post, saying something simple like Hi or Happy Birthday, joke around. They're a fun, easy and fast way to say something to another AW'er without resorting to PM's.

Once you start getting the hang of things, you can also start adding smilies, using the same smilie code used for posts, and those are a lot of fun too. I love reppies.

can somebody 'spain how one proffers rep points to others, and how one knows that one has received some, or does one just check regularly?

To leave a rep point you click the scales at the bottom where their user name is. You can either just click add to reputation with or without leaving a comment.

To check your rep points click User CP on the left hand side of the screen. This will take you to your user Control Panel where you will find your reps, as well as your other options

I have to confess I usually forget to give rep points on posts I like, as much as I like getting them.

I've been here a year and I still have a question: what's the "done thing" when someone sends you a question via rep? I've sent PMs and reped another post of theirs with the answer, but I never got responses on either so I don't know if that's what's done. It just seems strange someone would ask a question via a medium that doesn't allow responses.

I've carried on entire conversations via reps, so the medium does allow it, it just all depends on the individual.

there is no formal protocol, at least not that anyone has informed me about, and considering how many reps I have at this point, I think someone would have if there was.

Did that make sense?

I have to pick just one???

aye-yi-yi

let's see, let's see..... nope, Ghostbusters was '84 so I wasn't quite a teen yet.... um.... anything I saw in college is out (rules out everything from Heat to MIB) ....

wow, this is hard. There are a lot of films I could list. Field of Dreams, Full Metal Jacket, Die Hard, Silence of the Lambs, even Dances With Wolves) - as yes, I am something of a cinephile, and I suppose I ought to restrict it to films I actually saw at the time rather than those that came out then, which rules out films like Miller's Crossing....

but, if I had to pick one, with the criteria that it would be the only film from the era I could own, for example, it would be The Princess Bride. To pick anything else would be inconceivable.

(though Unforgiven merits a shout-out, as being a favorite and one of the last films I saw as a teen )

Technically I wasn't a teen yet when I saw my most favorite one, so I would have to choose Dead Poets Society. Watched a few scenes again a few days ago and man, did I like that movie.

carolina1143 has a spectacular aura
The English Patient. I saw the film first, then read the book. Got to say, I like the book more, but I still love the movie.
