I'm a mid-day person, apparently. I don't like early morning and I don't like late nights... at least not any more. I used to stay up all night and sleep all day, but getting a job kinda killed that habit.

Night Owl. My body thinks that late afternoon is the ideal time to wake up. Unfortunately.

Really -- and I know I'm bending the rules here -- I'm lookin' for a nice combo of the two. A beach with an ocean full of pool water would be awesome.

Pools, for the most part, are boringly shaped, overly calm, and leave one few options other than swimming redundant laps or floating pointlessly along, face down in the water, until someone breaks the hypno-tiled reverie with a well-placed cannonball.

The beach, OTOH, has got awesome waves to ride and fun riptides to battle, but tastes terrible when accidentally and repeatedly ingested (as it always is). Plus there are things in it with huge, nasty, pointy teeth.

If I could ride waves of chlorinated, unsalted, relatively shark-free water, however, I'd be one stoked beach-goer. Sandy sandwiches or no.

Oh, and we'd have to get rid of the sun too. I've got Dutch-Irish-Russian skin and very nearly burst into flame whenever I go outside during the day.

So, yeah. Chlorinated, unpopulated beach.

At night.

With a diving board.

:>)

I like your scenario better, HJ. How awsome would that be? To have an ocean that doesn't taste bad and isn't filled with apex preditors who see me as part of their food chain? Win.

The beach. As long as it isn't super-crowded, anyway.

If someone can figure out how to change 3/4 of the Earth's surface to pool water, OFG, I'd call that an epic win. Or a diabolic plan.

Still, I'm in. Any evil overlords out there with a chlorination ray they're looking to beta test?

Ha! I was just thinking the same thing, OFG. Still, a question's a question. And here's an answer (or three):

Chocolate. Definitely chocolate. I could technically live without it, but then I wouldn't really be living, would I?

The Big Brother tv show goes on the list too. I know it's become fashionable to slag reality shows, but I think BB gets a bum rap. Slaggers usually equate it to MTV's Real World, but the two shows are nothing alike. TRW just tosses a bunch of egomaniacal jerks into a house and follows 'em around as they go about their jerky lives, but BB is an actual game. For 3 months -- during which time the players are completely cut off from the outside world -- it's 24/7 psychological/social/political chess, complete with false personas, shifting alliances, and growing paranoia. In the end, the best players are the ones who can master themselves physically and psychologically. For a people watcher -- which most writers are -- it's pretty awesome. Anyway, I'd be sad if it was gone.

Caffeine's another frivolous thing I couldn't do without. I mean, I could eventually, but getting there wouldn't be pretty. And I'd have to find something else to drink that didn't taste bland...

Okay. 'Nuff from me. Who's next?

My ideal breakfast is lunch. Comes of being a nightowl, I guess. :>)

OFG's choice comes in a close second though. All good stuff.

Jem: I'd get behind the cherries and almonds, but I had a really horrible experience with cherries once. Put me off 'em pretty much permanently. Except for the jarred, maraschino kind that are really horrible for you but taste really sweet and awesome. Especially on ice cream. Can I add ice cream to my ideal breakfast? :>)

Orange juice is on the "bad" list too. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say that drinking orange juice after an extremely long hike and climb during the summer in Death Valley is a bad idea. A very bad idea. Unless you're trying to stop enjoying orange juice, in which case it's a great idea.
