I have noticed that a number of contributors to this forum are very critical of Dan Brown and don't think much of his writing.

Why is that? With this being a writers' forum is jealousy part of it?

Do a search for Dan Brown, because we've pretty much discussed this ad nauseum.

Oh, and welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy it here.

Myself, I have no opinion on him. I tried to read "DaVinci Code" and got bored halfway through it, but that's more on me than him.

Not everyone loves certain popular writers and certainly not everything is based on jealousy. After all, we love and praise and recommend other writers. So if we're anti Dan Brown, there must be reasons. And like Ferret said, there are plenty of threads out there discussing Dan Brown's writing.

I followed your advice and have just tried that.

Irritatingly, it's not possible to search for Dan as it's less than 4 letters.

Not everyone is anti-Dan Brown. Literature, as with all the arts, is subjective. I'm sure if you looked hard enough, you can find people that hate Star Wars or Mozart or Picasso too.

Put the whole name in quotes in the searchbox, like this:
"Dan Brown"

Though I think Google may give more relevant results. Type or copy this into Google:
"Dan Brown" site:absolutewrite.com

Why are so many contributors so anti-first person POV?

Why are so many contributors so anti-outline?

Why are so many contributors so anti-Stephanie Meyer?

Why are so many contributors so anti-sporks?

See where I'm going with this? Some things just don't work for some people. And since this has been discussed ad nauseum (and often end with being locked) perhaps we should let the topic drift away quietly....

We're rating Star Wars alongside Mozart and Picasso now?:box:

What's a spork?

A wondrous, miraculous invention that combines the tines of a fork with the bowl of a spoon. What resulted was basically a spoon with a shorter, shallower bowl and a built-in fork with tines too short to be useful. So..um...not that wondrous or miraculous, I guess.

Intended for use as silverware, but in certain writing communities it has acquired usage as a(n imaginary) eye gouge.

Also caused confusion for Wall-E when trying to sort it into his silverware collection.

UP WITH SPORKS!*

Srsly. You're bound to find people who don't like Dan Brown's writing for one reason or t'other on a discussion forum, which is what this is. I've seen passionate support for and against his work that hardly borders on jealousy.

Just saying, this irritation is a message board software limitation, beyond AW's control.

As well as the Google "site:" filter mentioned above, there's also a Google search box at the bottom of every page, which allows you to select the www.absolutewrite.com radio button.

My, oh my. How very observant you are, and what a nice friendly question for a first post.

And I hope you aren't still too irritated about not getting the search function to work first time. Didn't work for me either but I decided it was probably my fault for neither browsing more beforehand nor reading the introductory sticky threads.

It's all about opinons. In the billions of conversations here about Brown, I've yet to see any proof of jealousy.
