Sleepwalking. Sleeptalking. Great stories... quick, someone make a note of this topic for a future writing prompt.

My dad tried that with me. Not very effective.

It was fine until we went on vacation, and I tried following the same path. Woke up falling headfirst down the staircase... My parents really didn't figure out I was sleepwalking. They thought I was...not right in the head?

One more sleepwalking story...
Saw an interview with Chris Colfer (Kurt on Glee) on Leno. He's started sleepshopping! Goes online and orders crazy things like the full DVD set of the Carol Burnett show. Then packages show up at his door... Glad I'm not that bad. I'm not making the same kind of money he is...

Definitely. I can feel a sleepwalking character developing in the near future...

Sorry for the hijack, guys! I know I should post this in the Events forum, but it's for US, the MGers.
Everyone is welcome, in person or in spirit! Quote:

I used to sleepwalk, as a kid. I always peed in the closet. Thank God I grew out of that! And my brother and I apparently carried on very strange conversations in our sleep.

I don't believe I ever sleepwalked per se, but I remember that I had recurring dreams of being at school, and I always had on my pajamas and was lying on a rolling bed. I would push myself along the school halls with one foot, and in my dreams no one seemed to think it was weird.
But if I ever got off the bed in my dream, I would invariably wake myself up by walking into a wall in my bedroom. I swear that's a true story, as bizarre as it sounds. But I know for a fact that I never peed in my closet. |

Yay for Timp! Too bad it's a 9-hour drive for me. Otherwise I'd be there!
(and I don't think you can hijack a thread that's already wandered into the closet and peed...)

Sounds like a great event Timp. Wish I could use it as an excuse to visit California, but alas, the budget does not allow.
One more peeing in the middle of the night story. Not long after we moved into our new house, I hear water flowing upstairs after kids have gone to bed. Hubby and I rush upstairs to find our son, I think he was 6, peeing on the brand new custom made bath cabinets. I had to wake him to stop him and he was so uspet. I tried to make him feel better, but he was scared. Hasn't done it since. |

Timp - I'm sorry to have neglected congratulating you on your great news. I convinced our library to purchase your book! yay! I think all kids should read it.
We were having too much fun, I guess, peeing in all the closets, and I overlooked your announcement. Please forgive me. |

Recently read As Easy as Falling Off the Face of the Earth - and I liked it. It's nothing like most of what I read, and it was really difficult for me to get over the fact that the author is female - to me it just screamed of male POV - which I think is a really good thing since it is from a male MC POV. Weird, but it amazed me that a female wrote it.
Also read Young Fredle - which I also enjoyed, but not as much as I thought I would. Just finished The Visconti House by Elsbeth Edgar. It was a good story, but I wasn't crazy about it. For one thing, the voice seemed younger than 8th grade, even though at the end there was a kiss and some snuggling. My big problem is that the more I learn about writing - and I still have far to go - the more of a critic I become. I seem to pay too much attention to the writing and not just reading for pleasure. Does anyone else do this? What bothers me the most is the overuse of was/were. I catch myself counting them, for heaven's sake! What's up with that? How do I get over this and get back to just enjoying the story? |

I read Dead and Gone and This World We Live In by Susan Beth Pfeffer last week. They are the sequels to Life as We Knew It. First of all, I read them out of order, which didn't really matter, but does affect how you feel about the ending. The first book is about Miranda and the apocolyptic end of the world we know. I read this one first, thankfully, but then you're supposed to read Dead and Gone which is about Alex, a completely unkown character and the same apocalypse from his location and point of view. I read this one last. The third book is from Miranda's POV again, but shows how Miranda and Alex meet and what happens to them together. It was a little frustrating, because I already knew which characters never make it to the next book and which one's will die in the next book. Not a real problem though, but what was really an issue is that the way This World We Live In ends, would have been satisfying if you knew it was the last one. As I thought there was another book about Miranda and Alex, I was disappointed to find out the book was Alex's backstory. Plus, I think I read that Pfeffer is writing another in the series, but with different characters. I really want to know what happens to Alex and Miranda and I never will except in my own imagination.
Now to the books: They are amazing. I love, love, love these stories! I actually feel like I'm the MC some of the time and I get so into the story I actually get depressed or happy based on what is happening in the books. They are some of my favorite books ever. They're only beat out by Harry Potter, Hunger Games and anything by Jane Austen. |

Life As We Knew It sounds like something I'd enjoy. I'll have to check it out.
Right now, I'm reading The Wish List by Eoin Colfer. It's good so far, although I haven't read that much yet. I recently read Breathe: A Ghost Story, and it was good. Sad but sweet. Last edited by Ferret; 08-04-2011 at 05:06 AM. |

Oooooh, thanks, Ferret, for mentioning The Wish List. I love Eoin Colfer so I'll have to go look it up.
Right now I'm reading the newest Penderwicks story. Read until 2:30 this morning! I have to stop that. |

I liked the Wishlist, but not as much as AF. I liked Airman better, and I liked Half-Moon Chronicles and The Supernaturalist even more. Eoin Colfer is a favorite of my son and daughter.
I just finished re-reading The Borrowers, and now I'm on to The Romeo & Juliet Code by Phoebe Stone.

Read a great new one called Kat, Incorrigible. It's like Harry Potter in 19th century England, if Harry were a girl, and when they asked him to come to magic school he said F U GUYS! It was quite funny, lots of being proper and drinking tea (and being highly improper as well).
Now reading Dreamquest: Tales of Slumberia, about a girl trapped in the land where her dreams are created, trying to persuade everyone to stop giving her nightmares. It's pretty decent as well!

I don't know if this counts, but I read the preview of "The Son of Neptune" (second book in Rick Riordan's "Heroes of Olympus" series) at his website yesterday, and now I'm really looking forward to it when it comes out in October. Medusa's two lesser-known sisters (hoping they can finally get some publicity for a change) masquerading as BargainMart greeters while hunting down the hero - and one of them getting too fond of her job and forgetting that it was just their cover. I laughed throughout the whole thing.
