Can you rep me the name of the book to avoid?

You've read Hunger Games right? (LOL I haven't mind you... Decided I would even if for some reason the cover turns me off, but since I waited this long thought I'd wait until the third one was out)

I'm just gonna post it. I totally approve of posting negative crits of books, as long as you give real reasons why and aren't just like, "It sucks."

The Maze Runner.

And my issue is that the author is avoiding the world-building, at least in the first third, by having the MC ask about everything and either being interrupted or being told to shut up. The MC spends the whole time calling the author out on it, and all it does is frustrate the reader, not put them in suspense, at least for me. Then a third of the way in, the MC finds someone who will answer his (still just world-building) questions, and he decides he would rather work on weeding than talk. And that's where the author lost me. Also, I felt the quality of writing wasn't on par with The Hunger Games, which the book was compared to, which was why I picked it up.

I'm so tired. And I have no idea what I'm doing this evening. *sigh* I miss socializing.

Also - you're an English major, right, Sarah? Did you do any internships or not? Cause I have no idea what to do in that department. O.o

I just got accepted into grad school and they told me I could apply for a TAship where I would be teaching six units of GE English, but unfortunately, they told me I could do this four days before the app was due, so I didn't have time to finish it.

I just realized that a prologue would make The Continent better. But prologues are generally considered bad so now I'm torn...

Psh, do a prologue. Worst case, you'll have to cut it (or rename it chapter 1)

I did an internship summer before senior year.

It actually helped me get my current job (granted, this was my third job after college, and I had only been out for two years, lol)

ETA: (well, actually, technically it was my fourth)

I'm afraid to buy this book. I'm afraid I won't be pulled into it like I was the HG. Also, I could potentially have received one or more of my books from the contests I won two weeks ago, and then I could wait until I had a coupon to buy this one.

LOL, nah.

I'm just really jaded about fiction right now, and then just having that other book disappoint me on top of that has made me a little fearful about getting this one.

(Note: I was jaded before HG too, it just was good enough that it broke through)
