sorry to hear that vero

Morning all. As far as wordcount goes, my YA fantasy is only around 46k right now (was at 55k, but I cut a ton of stuff out). Struggling to get it back to around 50k

It's 45,000 but that page number is just a placeholder for now, I imagine, since the book is only out in December and we haven't finished editing just yet.

I have one book I wrote back in HS that is 160,000 words. Yeah . .. I worked on it for 5-7 years and then put it off to the side. I've thought about going back, rewriting it into a 3 book deal for YA but umm . . . that's a lot of words and seriously, there were two other books after the 160k one I never wrote.

I sent you a rep, but I'm really sorry Vero. But that is a hella of an accomplishment to have at least gotten to full status with her!

I got my query/10 pgs. crit back from Weronika's contest. So helpful! I knew my query was a mess, so it was good to see WHY it was a mess. lol

No, it seems pretty form-y to me.

The whole there were a lot of things I enjoyed but ultimately I wasn't passionate about it...

Oh well - I'm just wondering if I should continue to query this MS or just move on. I guess I'll continue querying until I have the next book ready to query... Hoping to be ready for summer.

That's the best idea I think Vero. Keep submitting, but focus on The Continent while you wait. Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with it.

I feel the rejection pain! I sent a total of 15 queries out back in Jan. and had 5 requests and all of them were rejected for the same issue--->The MC is either too snarky, or they can't relate to her (which is probably due to the snark). But every one of them like the concept. I'm trying to revamp the MC, you know, make her hard on the outside and less bitter inside. I just don't know if I'm getting the job done.

That's awesome, I got mine back too. She asked if she could use my query as an example, and offered to show my full to her people. But I haven't sent it to her yet, just because I'm trying to tweek the MC a little first.

Oo, that's great! I wanna hear how that turns out!

She said she'd request a partial based on the pages, which is encouraging since it's so very much a first draft. lol She gave a lot of good tips for what I should do to make them better - things that I thought I should skim over, but she thought I should expand and then shorten things I thought I should be descriptive about!

She had some really good comments on mine too. She liked the 1st 10 which is great, because that is when my MC is the snarkiest, so maybe she'll like the rest?????? *shurg* Who knows. The whole biz is so subjective. One query contest I entered "I can take it..." was R'd on the 1st line. LOL So you never know.

Speaking of queries, which hook do you like better?

#1. Life just threw seventeen-year-old Lark Greene a wicked twist. (maybe too passive?)

#2. Seventeen-year-old Lark Greene has a secret. But she doesn’t know it. (too cliche?)
