Kitty gets to see it on the 18th if she wants since she's in LA. Christmas for everyone else, though.

I've gone from being guardedly optimistic about this to outright skepticism.

We LOVED the revival of this show on Bwy (with Antonio Banderas, Laura Benanti, Jane Krakowski, Mary Stuart Masterson, Chita Rivera, Nell Campbell and Mary Beth Peil). LOVED it. Truth be told, it was one of the most singular, primal theatrical experiences we're ever had -- my wife and I were both in tears at the act one finale, and watched all of act two in a state of shock and wonder.

Now, I know that a movie isn't going to be able to replicate that experience, so I was, as I said, guardedly optimistic. But the more footage I see, the tracklist from the soundtrack, the casting, the new song... it looks like substantial liberties have been taken. I mean, Fergie as Saraghina? For fuck's sake!

That being said, I'll be there on the first weekend, popcorn in hand, praying for a miracle.

"Nine" does look pretty sweet. Fergie is bogus, but I heard she was only in it for a minute? And to be fair, though her solo music is awful, she's a good singer. I admit that I cannot understand why a song would exhort the listener to "be italian", but I'm prepared to find out.

It's not Fergie herself I have a problem with (trust me -- NO problem whatsoever), it's casting her as Saraghina...

In 8 1/2 (which Nine is based on), and the stage musical, she's portrayed as... earthy, a heavy and somewhat distorted earth goddess figure, at once sexually enticing and somewhat hideous, the sort of woman a boy, at age 9, would be both drawn to and repelled by. I think that dynamic is key.

Fergie, whatever her assets (ahem), aint no Saraghina.

Interesting! I didn't know that. But you know Hollywood doesn't have 'hideous' women. The world would end if we were forced to look at someone who wasn't a hottie.

That's why I love British TV/movies, where there's a good dose of normal looking people, plus the hotties. Hee.

In Glee news, is it terribly fangirlish that as a Christmas present for my 14 year old daughter, I got a poster made of Kurt in his football uniform, staring off into the distance? She is going to squee so loud on Christmas morning. Glee indeed!

Okay, I was listening to Glee: The Music Vol. 2 earlier, and I'm not officially going through Glee withdrawals.

Dear Lord. Four more months without Glee???? What am I going to do with myself? Let's hope the dvd can tie me over until then. It's going to be tough.

Anyone else feel a little empty hole in their heart where their weekly Glee filling used to be?

Last night I watch Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby (verdict: stupid, though far less stupid than I had suspected it would be), and the mom was played by Jane Lynch, stealing the show as usual. And then I was like, she is hilarious when is my Glee coming back?????

It's cool to see a thread on Glee. I love the show and bought vol.1 DVD set a couple of days ago but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Holla!

So, did anyone buy the Road to Sectionals DVD? How are the bonus features? I'm in line for it at my work, but it's back ordered so no one knows when we'll actually get it.

Haha! As much as I love 30 Rock, it's nice to see something else win the best comedy award for a change. I think that this will add to Glee's credibility. I feel like some people I know were riding it off as a stupid teen show. Hopefully this will cause some reconsideration!

And it was great to see the cast all together. Makes me really want some new episodes.

Also, for those of you who haven't heard, Glee will be holding auditions for people ages 16-26.

It sounds crazy, but...I might just do it.

That is exciting. Looks like it's just waiting on CBS for the okay. Here's hoping we get it. It would be a like a Dr. Horrible 2 preview!
