We watched it as a family here. Unfortunately, that meant having to rewind a couple times (thank goodness for being able to rewind live TV) because my too-literal 12-year-old kept asking questions, some of which we just plain couldn't answer.

Loved the musical numbers. "Hot Patootie" was awesome (though no one can perform it like Meat Loaf, in my opinion), and Kurt in "Time Warp" completely nailed the creepy Riff Raff voice. "Toucha Toucha" didn't make any sense to me whatsoever; they censored "heavy petting and seat wetting" but had Emma stripping Will and undulating against him? Huh?

Hated the actual plot. Will's going to have the kids perform a musical that no high school would ever allow their students to perform, so he can steal someone else's girlfriend? Like my husband said, they completely ruined Will's character. The kids didn't have enough on-screen time; it was all about Will and Emma. I felt like they left too many things unresolved (like Carl's confrontation with Will) and that Will's turnaround came way too suddenly. And Sue giving Will a rational lecture about why he shouldn't be doing the play? Any episode that has Sue as the voice of reason...well, you know something's wrong.

I did like the "body image" parts. Teen guys can be just as angsty about their looks as teen girls, we just don't hear about it as much. I thought that was very realistic. And Becky, the Cheerio, was perfect! I hope they include her more in future episodes; she shows up occasionally, but after last night she needs to be there more. Loved her Sue impression!

with respect, i do believe this was one episode that didn't have to carry the plot.

even still

Toucha toucha toucha touch me song certainly felt like it was hoisting the plot over its shoulders and giving it a big nudge to me.

anyway...this was just a fun one. for halloween.

nice original BRAD and EDDIE cameos too. (-:

and lets face it...we all knew the musical wouldn't happen.

Loved: Meat Loaf and Bostwick cameos; Sue's Halloween rant (what's missing from Halloween today? fear!); Kurt's Riff Raff (awesome and not enough of it); all things Stamos; Becky (if you don't give me candy, I'm going to cut you); an expertly carved pumpkin made by Sue in the likeness of... what else?: Sue.

Loved much less: Toucha, wha?; effing stupid Shuester; Mercedes as Frank N Furter (love her voice but she's not Frank).

Overall, the "loved" outweighed the "loved less" so it was good for me.

Loved the ep. and really enjoyed the cameos by Bostwick and Meatloaf. While "Toucha Toucha Touch Me" was...interesting... I got such a kick out of Brittany and Santana in the background. Heather Morris did a fine job as Columbia. I found my eyes went to her rather than anyone else most of the time although Chris Colfer's Riff Raff was amazing.
Having the guys worry about body image was brilliant.

Acting like he was coming onto Rachel-as-Janet.

Damn, I am officially old, because that bothered me immensely. Yeah, I know, that was the whole point. Still. Even before that cast change, I found myself extremely uncomfortable watching the episode.

Sigh. Like I said. I'm old. Damn.
You're not old. I had the same issues. If a school ever allowed their students to put on Rocky Horror, in no way would teachers (or dentists) perform with the kids, let alone in underwear. And the kids would definitely not be in their underwear in the first place.

That being said ... I didn't mind watching the episode for the song performances. But it was completely illogical, and I'm not just talking about Will's bad choices. Spend that much money on set pieces and costumes and not do the show (when the whole point was to make money for nationals)?

Will = Ryan Murphy. Take a page from your own script and Sue's lecture about art and pushing boundaries.

But points to Santana, Quinn and Brittany who I thought were the best in the episode.

Overall, I loved it, but there were some things I didn't like.

First, I love Rocky Horror, and the numbers were great. Kurt as Riff Raff was really good. And I actually liked Mercedes as Frank. It was a lot of fun to watch.

But the storyline was stupid. Like Kim said, no high school would ever allow this production, and I kept thinking that through the whole thing. How inappropriate it was. (I must be getting old too...ten years ago I wouldn't have batted an eye). But Will, what are they doing to him? He is turning into such a douche, too focused on Emma, it is becoming ridiculous!

The Touch Toucha scene was kinda hot, if you just focus on Will and Emma, but if you think about the fact that he wanted to play Rocky (after telling Carl he couldn't be Frank because he was an adult and it wasn't appropriate to grind up against the students...but he could gind against Rachel??) it gets creepy. The ick factor was too much.

I did like the body issue part with Finn, but also got annoyed at it. No, he doesn't have rock-hard abs like Sam, but the comments they made implying he was fat pissed me off. He is skinny, as we all have noticed that he lost weight this season. So it was nice for them to touch on the issue of male's having body issues, it was also a slap in the face to people that really struggle with their weight. Because if he is fat, what is a severely obese person going to feel about themself?

Sue was great of course, and her last speech, I found myself agreeing with her (for the second time this season). Becky was awesome too, want to see more of her. And I loved the Time Warp scene.

Overall, it was fun, if a little off. Oh, and I completely missed Meatloaf and Barry's cameos.

Ditto. Nobody will ever touch Tim Curry's amazing performance as FnF. It's a mistake to completely imitate something that was genius the first time around, you'll only look bad by comparison. If you're gonna do it it might be best to re-imagine it, go in a totally different direction with it, which they did.

The thing about this show is that most of the logic problems are so fixable. I know Will decided to put himself in the show to impress Emma (never mind gyrating with Rachel or taking a role away from his own student in the process) but they still could have done the same song. All he had to say was that he needed Emma's help nailing down the choreography. They do their song and dance, it's not creepy, and Will's jealous side still shows.

True. But, funnily enough, FnF was the only decent performance of Curry's entire career (IMO, of course).

I agree with most of what you guys are saying. I was pleasantly surprised by Kurt's RiffRaff. I didn't understand why he wasn't Frank, but he was so perfect for RiffRaff somehow.

Will wanting to be Rocky was very disturbing, but I thought Toucha Toucha Touch Me was well done with Emma (but with Rachel would have been so so so wrong).

Even if Rocky Horror would be put on in the average high school, the principal in Glee has practically shut down the Glee club over sexual performances and the Glist. There is no way that he'd be okay with RH (along the same lines as him being okay with the Lady Gaga/Kiss costumes in the same ep where he thought Tina's gothwear was a problem).

I knew some of the lyrical changes they had made and that Mercedes was going to be Frank, etc., and I was putting this down to what Fox was willing to show, which is obviously an issue. But the way they integrated the changes into the plot worked very well, IMO.

I will be very surprised if Glee doesn't get some flack for Will's Rocky to Rachel's Janet, considering the GQ thing that went on just this week.

I see that a lot of people had icky feelings about Mr. Shue wanting to be Rocky. When I saw that part, somehow I just knew that it would never happen where Rachel would be Janet and that he only did it as a ploy to get closer to Emma. I think because of this, I didnt have such a grossed out feeling about it.

Kurt is supposed to be a sweet nonthreatening boy next door type gay character. The show has already gotten flak for the way they portray him. Making him the creepy and sexually way way out there character like FnF would not be a good move for the show. Ya gotta think, for many viewers, he's one of the only actual gay characters/people they are exposed to. The actor would have been awesome in the part though. But yeah, he was great as Riff Raff.

Overall I enjoyed this ep, despite the utterly nonsensical plot. It's really starting to feel like the show writers just roll a D20 to determine what the characters' action should be, instead of considering what the character would actually do.

And I have to admit, on my DVR it looked like the show was about to end, and they were doing Boring Speechifying, and I thought to my self, "If these bitches do not do the Time Warp, I am officially giving up on them." Whew!

FABULOUS movie! Also includes John Ritter, Denholm Elliott, Julie Haggarty, Marilu Henner, and Mark Linn-Baker. Never saw the stage show, which I've heard was phenomenal.

Now **that's** something I'd like to see GLEE do: a Noises Off-influenced show, where we see the craziness of what happens behind the scenes of a show (or musical), as well as pieces of the show/musical. That would give the writers a chance to let the dialogue truly flow.

I've seen the stage production of Noises Off. It's a LOT of fun! Not sure if I've seen the film; maybe ever-so-many years ago.

I now have trouble watching John Ritter without feeling sad.

Bit late to the party...but I didn't like this episode too much. I'm not a big fan of RHPS so I didn't get a gleeky kick out of the fact they were doing an episode revolving around it.

It just seemed like a RHPS episode for the sake of doing a RHPS episode. There were some interesting points raised about the difference between objectifying men and women, but the episode didn't really explore those issues. Finn and Sam never really had to face them.

Mercedes got her lead role but she didn't really because they didn't perform the concert.

It was nice to see Emma sing again though.

I just read that John Stamos was supposed to play Frankenfurter -- he even recorded the song (you can download it online). But when Fox realized what was going on, they nixed it, so suddenly we had Stamos playing Eddie. Fox insisted on having a woman play the transvestite.

That's what I heard.

That's a bit of a shame. Considering a woman dressed up as a woman is, in fact, not a transvestite.

There have been transvestites on television for decades. Is Fox aware of that? Flip Wilson, Bosom Buddies (not, strictly speaking, transvestites, but men in women's clothing nevertheless), dozens of cabaret, comedy and variety shows, and so on.
