3. I think this is - strangely - the only novel of this author that hasn't ever been filmed
4. One of this author's many plays became a successful movie with Michael Caine
5. Not an obscure author at all - I'd imagine that almost everyone here will have heard of at least 3 or 4 movies made from his novels (even if they wouldn't necessarily immediately be able to name the author)

Ah, yes indeed ... well done!

(People sometimes mention it in the same sort of context as Huxley's "Brave New World" and Orwell's "1984", as dystopian/futuristic novels - I think it's actually a far better book than either.)

"Christ, Marx, Wood and Wei,
led us to this perfect day".

Unbelievable that it hasn't been filmed. It's so good, and has so much potential, that even a "gifted director" couldn't do too much damage to it ...
