Submissions are open for the Tibor Jones Pageturner prize. The winner will receive representation and 1000 pounds.

http://www.tiborjones.com/special_pr...ner_prize.html

Not sure if there is a better place to post this so more people see it. It doesn't really give specific guidelines so I just sent a short cover letter and full manuscript.

At least there's no entry fee. The agency itself doesn't appear to handle my
genres, and I'm still looking first at North American agencies, so I'll pass.

It says any genre. I figure it's worth a shot.

I wonder what they are gaining from that prize. Most agents are buried under submissions, so why would they need to dangle money in front of authors in order to get more submissions?

Sure, there's no entry fee, so apparently they aren't making money on the contest, but I still don't see why they would have it in the first place. The only reason I can come up with is that they want to get some publicity for the book (hence announcing the winner at the London Book Fair), but a contest that has no track record doesn't really have any weight when it comes to acclaim/merit.

It might be a fun contest for the right applicants, as long as they do a little research on the people already represented by Tibor Jones.

While waiting for the verdict on some partial and full submissions I entered the contest. Got an e-m this morning, that I made the final 10 count. Well, maybe there were just 10 entries…LOL

it's been a few months since I submitted a partial, so I shall check if it's a 'no' or it's still in the queue....
