The buzz and fizz of NaNoWriMo and NaNoFiMo is over.

JaNoWriMo anyone?

I am going for 50k in Jan AND Feb (so 100K total) to end up with my multi-world fantasy/sci fi past/future journey/expedition opus type... thing.

Anyone else?

I've got chocolate and coffee.

YES.

I hate winter. Beautiful excuse to avoid shoveling... And the chocolate and coffee won't hurt =D

LOL!!

I thought about doing something like that for this MG novel I want to write that I've already outlined but I'm worried 50k may be a little high for it. I suppose there's nothing that prevents me from setting 40k as the goal though, eh (even though I'll probably end up doing 50k anyway)?

Oh whew! Thank goodness. LOL Count me in then. Anything to postpone starting this thing another few days, I suppose. I could probably use the additional days to continue reading up on MG novels. But I feel good having already completed my outline/synopsis like I did for NaNoWriMo.

Does this involve the use of the NaNo site or is it just a JaNo-"like" thing? Sorry to go all Monk-"like" on you guys. Just the CPA in me coming out.

I did NaNoWriMo but my 50k (this was the first time I won NaNoWriMo) is only a small fraction of the story. I didn't touch it in December. I'm thinking I should continue writing until I've got something that resembles a complete story, which at the rate the story is going should be at least another 100k, then maybe if it's not headed for the trunk, one day I could start editing it.

Does that sound like a plan? Or should I start on something else, or what?

do what you feel works for you, benbradley! I say, pick a wordcount or a 'page per day' goal (if editing) and go at it!

And yes, there is a website, if you are interested, but I think they too just go by trust, there is no validator, from what I understand.

here is the link

I'm in! I started writing a new WIP yesterday, so I'm going to aim to add 50 K to it. I'll try to find a wordcount widget and use it in my post signature here.

I'll participate, but I'm going to work on a chapter book for kids, so my goal is 6,000-10,000 words. :)

I know some of you will scoff at my 6,000 word commitment, but YOU try writing a chapter book. Every single word has to count, and the voice has to be perfect. So far, my attempts at chapter books have failed. MG comes much easier to me. So, for me, it will definitely be a challenge.

I will not scoff at anyone attempting to write a book, of any kind.

You are welcome, Smish, and I will beat up anyone that scoffs at you. I have a sparklefairy sledgehammer and I'm not afraid to use it.

Ha! Thanks, Bettielee. :D

Aha, yes, I'm in. I'll be aiming for around 50k in January, though I'll be doing editing at the same time, so I might not make it that high, especially as I'll be away for 4 days in the second week, and then have a wedding to go to on the 30th...

But I'm going to pick a book idea that will be around 80k and aim to finish it by the end of February, so I'll be here for the next 2 months... whinging about this and that no doubt.

I have a feeling there's going to be a group of us in here doing a NaNo-like thing every second month, and I'll still be here in the in-between months. I think healthy competition is the easiest way for me to get somewhere.

Meanwhile, when I told my sister yesterday that I had finished my novel at 124k, all she said was, "Good, maybe I'll get to use the computer now." So perhaps I should learn to love writing on my laptop instead. I don't think she quite understands that I intend to make a living writing, and as such will be locked away behind a computer quite often. :p

So, 50k in January, and edit my 65k book to at least a better standard that it is currently in (it was the first thing I ever wrote as a serious attempt at being a writer... lots of editing in all probability).

Then 30k-ish in Feb while I edit my 124k NaNovel. Then probably another 50k in March while I edit the 80k book lol. Jesus, what have I got myself in to? You're all part of a secret cult, aren't you, here to lure innocent writers to an electronic grave! Nooooooo!

(Note: I've had 2 coffees today, and red creaming soda. Excuse me.)

I haven't really stopped since Nano to be honest, aim is to have 5 first drafts done by end of Jan and then start revising. 3 done, 2 to go. Had to abandoned one because i couldn't get out of chapter one (thought about it too much before writing the damn thing, so what am I doing now? Snowflake outlining for the first time. Masochist -- me -- how very dare you, oh and its Steampunky sorta too, just for added fun).

So I'll be writing in Jan. Full tilt. If I'm on forums a lot it means I'm procrastinating :)

But I most likely won't be on the Janowrimo site. Unless, is there a word count bar? Coz that brings out my competitive instincts

I am going to be doing revisions on my Nano story in Jan. So I am in.

I would like to get a total of 70K (currently at 50). I know I will be both adding some and cutting some from the rough draft, so I don't have a clear idea of what a daily word count goal would look like at this point. But basically I'd just like to get 70K of 'good stuff' by Jan. 31. :)

Why can't Nano be in January or February? I'm going back to school so might not have nearly as much time as I'd like. Although I plan on finishing a novel this year :)

My goal is around 25,000 words, because my primary goal is cleaning up my other novel. I just want to get some ideas/dialogue/characters splashed on the page for my next novel.

It's (omg!) YA/Fantasy again... :)

I'm really looking forward to this. I need to be put under pressure and given time constraints or I would never get anything done... I wonder if there is some sort of status bar like they have at Nano that we could post in our signatures or something? Anyone know? Go team, yay for peer pressure!

Cheering you all on!
I did DecMGWriMo. Wrote a full novel (less than 50K) in December.
