Is this it?

I've been putting some time and effort into making my platform more known. I have been going through this book process since 2005 and I still learn new things everyday. Thanks to Thrillride I had several new things to think about as far as platforms go and I may have just gotten affirmation that Im on the right track.

I got an email from a woman in Australia who is writing a book on a male prisoner here in the states. She said she came across my Ehow article on how to find an inmate and then my blog and website. She had several questions and I thought. She contacted ME! Of all the people in the world she want MY help with this. So, I guess what Im asking is, does this mean Im building a solid platform? Am I doing it right?

I'd say so. If somebody in Australia found you through the internet, then you're certainly not on the wrong track :-)

Also asking for help can help you. I've had several people (a bit higher on the food chain) who I have asked for a quote, or help with a particular project, then ask me for the same, resulting in some nice mentions.

I'm certainly glad that happened for ya. And I hope for many more updates like that. Keep it up. And by all means, keep (me) updated on any other and future platform-building techniques.

I received an email from Zonta International asking for "the book" after they came across my blog. I included that email in my platform section of my proposal. It shows that there are people "out there" who want to hear what you have to say. It means a lot!

It's a start. Now send her some advice, use the interaction to post another article (like "innate interaction across national bounderies" or something). Build on it

How do you include something like that? And how can TrixieBelden leverage the contact she received?

I had something similar-- a fellow in New York ask me for advice in handling a local gang that had stolen laptops from his school. That's a bit out of my line, but there are some parallels, so I discussed some ideas with him. Seperately, I had a local church group come to me for advice on aid and development work in rural Haiti (not connected to the earthquake). In the first case I don't think my advice was followed, in the second case it looks like it will be. In both cases it's just some informal work that I did on the side. When I am pitching my book about aid & develpment's role in counterinsurgency, how do I incorporate these informal exchanges into descriptions of my platform without it being fluffy or weak?

In my "Marketing" section of my book proposal I put in a "Request for the book" section and included all requests for advice or information, no matter how significant or insignificant.
