Hey. My first post!

My blog is way more for my enjoyment than my readers. Probably why I still only have a small and loyal following :) Though I will sometimes tackle subjects they've asked me about.

Welcome LeloPaul! Frodo, I write mostly for me but I am trying to build up the other areas of my site that will appeal to other writers (my two-cents page for instance will have advice from writers to writers on it). My blog ends up being my state of mind at any given time in the day and how it relates to the big picture. I know, too cryptic:)

I have one blog in which I document my goals and accomplishments and post excerpts I feel like sharing from my most recent writing endeavors.

I have a different blog that is my own take on best practice methods for writing and my personal rules on what a writer should and shouldn't do.

The former is primarily written for me. The latter, I hope, other people find useful. And, although a few things have been inspired by discussions I've seen over here at AW, I don't usually write on a specific subject with the idea that my readers will appreciate it more than any other.

Ditto on the "state of mind at any give time in the day" remark. :) Of course, I wouldn't really consider my blog a writing blog any longer. It's more of a mommy blog now. But if I ever land an agent, I'll definitely have much more to say about writing than I do now!

My blog is set up mostly to entertain others, and generally has movie/game reviews which I hope are amusing. Sometimes I also give advice to writers.

I do a balance of both. Quite frankly, though, if you write what your readers want and it's not interesting to you, that will come thorough in your blog.

I write what I want to write, with my audience in mind at all times. I hope that makes sense. I think if I wrote for my audience only, my writing style would suffer. If I wrote only for myself, well, that's what a private diary is for in my books.

What is this? Some kind of stalker question?
Both and neither I suppose. I know that people are reading my blog but I don't write what I think they want. I also don't write for writers nor do I write a blog because I write stories. I write the blog because I want to touch people. Sometimes I want to make them cry, or laugh, sometimes I just want them to feel something of themselves in what I've said. I write to pick up a piece of life and turn it to an angle someone might not have considered before. I don't have a lofty esoteric goal with it or even fancy marketing plans. I just hope to bring something to the party and hope they enjoy the buffet.

I write my thoughts but try to stay focused on teen issues, life issues, movies, book reviews, tidbits about writing, what I'm writing, and anything else that pops up.

I write primarily what I want, with an occasional thought out to my readers for cutting big stuff or adding explanation where I might have new readers :)

Thanks for your input.
I'm kind of torn. Just writing for myself would (for me) be a diary like April Hollands said above. But if I just write what readers like, I don't feel that I grow as a writer. Then I am stuck in a genre. I guess a second blog with solve my problem. But [big sigh]...that's so much work!

My blog is more for my readers than for myself. I'm always reading on how to perfect my writing, so I figured why not blog about it? Sometimes it's simple things, sometimes it's more complicated rules or exceptions. Just depends on what I was reading about that day.

I write about things I want to write about, but I try to make sure readers will find it interesting. It is public after all, rather than a private journal.

Topic-wise, a fair bit is about writing and the arts, but I'm conscious that people also read it to learn about me. I try to balance between talking about my writing/life and talking about general writing/arts things. Whether I succeed is another matter.

Nobody gives an aerial sex act how I feel on January Nth, and there are a billion people who might run across what I've written. I write about how I think, about writing problems, about things I've observed, about making drums, about fun things I've run across on the Interwho.

Alternative Ramblings is my writing blog and has been around for a loooong time. I keep it centered on books, writing, and things related to those two. I basically write what I want, though after the No Kiss Blogfest I ended up with some followers, so now I keep them in mind when I post.

A Bookseller Recommends is all me. I'm the bookseller, and those are the books I recommend or that I'm reading/finished/just started. Though I don't have any followers (awww), I post a wide variety of books, from kids to adults, nonfiction to fiction. So if you're looking for a good book to read, stop by and see if there's anything that sparks your interest!

I guess my blog is focused on me -- all the things I have to remember when I start pretending I'm a writer. The things an extension of my noticing what published writers were doing. Now, I'm trying to imitate techniques.

Writing the blog helps me focus on what I should be doing.

I have several blogs (writing, spiritual, paranormal, dreams, etc), but on my main blog these days I just ramble. I don't care about grammar either. Writing in my blog is just something to do when I'm bored and procrastinating or can't sleep.

I started my blog to write about writing and then I realised that I really knew nothing about writing so how could I write about it. Right?

So as I am an Australian living in Canada my blog morphed into a travelogue, a way to keep in contact with home, a repository for stories about this and that and just a wee dram of information around my writing progress.

Though I have gone off track I have enjoyed the experience.

Good question, Frodo. I follow my heart. Go with my guts. Some stuff are so intense for me that I just really want to share them with others and can't help it.

Cheers,

N.

Since I had problems with deciding what to post, I decided to designate days for topics. On Mondays, I profile an agent that I would love to work with; on Tuesdays, I provide a small sample of my work; on Wednesdays I answer questions from the YA Highway blog; on Thursdays, I give a book review; and on Fridays, I give a fitness tip. I just started this, and it's been kind of fun. Feel free to stop by:

I write what I feel like writing. If a book I read interested me, or something in the news got me irritated. Sometimes I'll write about music. Lately I've been writing about Old Time Radio, the shows and such.

But I don't write about writing. I think there are more than enough blogs on that and I really don't have anything interesting to offer on that subject.

Basically, I write for me and if people who read it find it interesting too, so much the better.
