Actually, I've had a form request before (for a partial) from a respectable agency, that started off as Dear Author. Almost deleted it when I read the greeting, but thankfully I didn't... Now the partial is a full, because the intern "loved" it, and I'll probably have to wait another three months for her to get around to reading it, at which point the actual agent will probably take another three months to get around to it, by which point I will have thrown myself off a cliff.

Completely different agent told me she'd get around to reading my ms last week, so I've been obsessively checking my email... Nothing so far...

I know ... I feel like querying a bunch more just to get the rejections But judging from querytracker anyway, I should be hearing about my submissions around now. So I'm trying to keep busy by doing projects around my house and garden.

I wonder if things slow down this time of year?

I probably shouldn't nudge anybody until the middle of next month. Since I'm going on vacation in the second half of that month I may as well wait until the end. Heck of a lot of waiting ahead, I'm afraid. I hate to research more agents when I have seven partials/proposals out and more open queries to boot. Maybe if I do the work, it will be a reverse jinx

At least my garden is looking fantastic!

Haha, Hathor you are welcome to work on my garden when you're finished with yours! I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of querying again just to get those Rs coming in. I checked my list and I should have had three last weeks. Yet nothing. Not one little email.

I used to think the only thing worse than taking the bus was waiting for it. I was wrong. Query 30 agents and waiting endlessly for rejections is far worse.

Heck, I was going to invite people to work in my garden. It is one of those yards where there is an unlimited amount of work. I recently had a landscaper in who specializes in native plants and she was pointing out all the invasive species growing in the wooded areas. Ignorance was bliss.

But it is a rainy day, so gardening is out. I guess I will have to look at my fall plant catalogs and fantasize. Unfortunately, it is much easier to order bulbs and plants than to put them all in

Isn't it funny how warped we get during this process? Bring 'em on, baby!!
We are rejected, therefore we are writers!

I got a quick and dirty R from a quick responder, still waiting on some not-so-quick responders.

At least the R proves I'm still trying.

And speaking of gardens, I'm starting to like the jungle look.

I caught my daughter watering the plants in my garden last night. She literally whipped down her pants and peed standing up. How she managed to not get her panties wet is still a mystery to me. But i should thank her, her lack of desire to use a toilet is the only attention my garden is getting.

It's funny how when those Rs start eluding you, you begin to think of yourself as not trying at all. Like it's the Rs that prove it to you somehow. Now I think of my little queries out there as floating on a breeze, like the feather in Forrest Gump.

I'm interested in getting a pet wolf to deal with the deer.

A jungle would be nice, especially if it had something that takes care of deer.

Sense a theme?

Perhaps you've stumbled onto a genius literary idea. Instead of the Old Man And The Sea, you could try writing Goddess Rids Her Jungle of Deer.

Hey, everyone! Remember the Alamo. 380 queries. 360 Rejection/No response. No stone unturned.

If I could explain how to keep deer out of gardens, it would definitely be a best seller. Perhaps I should try my hand at fiction -- how a rational suburban mom grew increasingly unhinged as she watched even her frakking deer-resistant plants getting eaten.

I'm not sure the Alamo is the best allusion, unless one is Mexican

You made me laugh so hard out loud my kids stopped playing to watch the show. Apparently my walking around grumbling about rejections is no longer worthy of their interest. Thanks for the laugh, hon.

Ha, ha... Well this is a reminder that you can't analyze every word of a rejection or assume certain things about words used in correspondence....

Another rejection today... Yes, whoever said it is like ping-pong... it really is!

Ok, so honest answers here. Am I crazy for being tempted to walk outside at 1 a.m. at night and just let all my rejection and dejection out in one great big, nonsensical scream at the literary gods? I would do it too, but I'm paranoid someone will hear and call campus security.
