This morning I saw a fox in my front yard...

Is this a dangerous situation?

Aren't they supposed to be nocturnal?

If it's acting odd, not showing any fear, etc, I would be worried.

However, right now the fox at the end of our driveway has kits, and she is out at all manner of the day hunting gophers. Saw her yesterday morning prowling the fence line, and a few days ago she was our in the late morning in the field below us.

In the early evening she and the babies will be outside their den, lying in the grass. So it's not completely out of character to see them in the daytime.

There was a story on the news the other day, baby twins were attacked in their cot by a fox that got into their house. I was surprised as I always thought that foxes were pretty harmless. It seems though that urban foxes are losing their fear of man and becoming more dangerous to you children. They are also becoming less noctural. Some are calling for a cull to contain the supposed threat.

Well, I thought it was odd seeing a fox in my yard. We've had skunks, raccoons, and the occasional possum.

I went over and warned the girl next door; she has small children.

The children or the foxes?

My Mom and Dad used to have a female fox that hung around their place in the mountains. If they had been to town and got back around 4 pm she would be lounging in the grass waiting for them. Of course the fact Mom fed her might have had something to with that.

I'm hearing a totally unprecedented number of stories about confident foxes this year - I wonder if they're having a population boom? Or if it's the first step of their global plan to take over our place at the top of the food chain...
