Discussion of writing skill aside, It'd be an understatement to say Meyer's done pretty well for herself - I would take it as the compliment it was meant as 
Someone reviewed my book on Amazon and said, "It's as good as Twilight." I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but then I figured, if someone wants to compare me to an author that's sold a gazillion copies, have at it!
