Anyone in this thread have an awesome recipe for stollen? Looking for a proper authentic recipe to make and take to various holiday parties. Cheers!

Would a German language recipe version suffice? Or do you need an English version?

If you would be fine with a German language one, here are three very decent recipes:
http://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/22601...tsstollen.html

http://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/20457...ststollen.html

http://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/99541...ststollen.html

Christstollen is traditionally baked at least four to six weeks in advance. It takes that long for the spices' and fruits' flavors to "spread". Freshly baked Christstollen in comparison is a little more dry and a tad bland. So if you're getting prepared for a Christmas Day meal: Bake the Christstollen as soon as possible for maximum flavor on the day it is served.

If you need an English language version, I will probably have to do some digging (or some translating...) - just let me know if the above recipes will suffice (Christstollen baking, btw, is a LOT of work. If you wouldn't mind, I would like to suggest baking traditional "Vanillekipferl" instead - which is much easier, much faster, equally authentic German and soooo good. The ingredients are easier to find, too. )

Thanks! I think I can sort it out with one of those recipes. Only thing I can't figure out is, how does it get more moist as it sits for weeks? That seems impossible!

Those vanillekipferl look pretty tasty too. I bake lots of different things all the time, so I think I am up for the stollen challenge though

Guten tag, Frau Aruna! Wie geht es ihnen? Ich verstehe ein biSchen Deutsch. Ich bin Kanadische. Unt sie?

I am currently learning to speak German and so far is it much easier than French. The verbs in French are ridiculous. German verbs and conjugation seem to be much closer to English.

Precisely.

Also, you're supposed keep the Stollen properly wrapped or packaged, so no moisture can "escape".

Hallo Leute,

Hello everybody,
well... I am a German born and (sadly?!) raised. Through school and travels I learned English only as one foreign language of many. If anybody needs a german Beta though, I am happy to help. Except for some weird new german comma placement rules I should be fine to assist.

Thank you SaraP ^.^
and dbfitzgerald: I think a good choice of crime novel would be "Der Richter und sein Henker" by Dürrenmatt. It is a little old but I personaly love the author and his work. He is most famous for his theater pieces, "Der Besuch der alten Dame" and "Die Physiker" (you should take a look at that one, too. It is written like a theater script but fully intended to be read like a novel. A very interesting crime story about 3 guys in a hospital who think they are Einstein, Salomo and Newton. Murders happen and plots unfold. It is a very good read.)

Edit: Come to think of it, "Der Besuch der alten Dame" is also a nice crime novel/theater script. In that one an old rich lady goes back to the poor village she was born in and claimes to give every citizen in the area a million doller of one guy who wronged her in the past was killed. Also nice and interesting^^

Was meint ihr dazu?

Hallo!

Hi Scandiaca, and welcome to this District! I'll read your piece later today (just got out of bed!) but did you know that we have our own SYW for non-English languages? It's here:
http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/...play.php?f=215
I expect one of the mods will move it for you!

Hallo Dbfitzgerald,
