Anyone want to help me name my dog?

It's probably a sign of the apocalypse that I'm even asking this question. But yes, we're getting a puppy. We're very excited, but the kiddies don't know yet. Middle of next week and a couple of little girls in the mountains of North Carolina may very well burst into flames of sheer excitement, once they get a load of this:

In the meantime, I'm not overly thrilled with the name they've given her and I've never had a dog before. Any suggestions?

Oh, and hi! It's been ages, but I've had no writerly news. Only writerly blues.

I think I'd name it Liberty (and maybe call her Libby for short).

How adorable! What kind of dog is she or is she an all American mutt? I always name my dogs and then after I have them a few days they start showing their personality and they end up with two or three names. The dog in my avatar my daughter found at her dentist's office half dead. She named him Tyrone. Well, that may be his official name but since I think he looks like Winston Churchhill, I've nicknamed him that.

Best of luck with the new puppy and I know your daughter's will be crazy for her. She really is a cute puppy. She looks like she'll be a big one.

She's a boxer/shepherd so they say. She really has a much more shepherd-y face in real life, but long legs. (I think that picture is probably two weeks old.)

One of my little skiing students had a dog named Book. Which I feel is awesome.

Cocoa is a natural choice. Or their favorite girl-power heroine!

I wasnae overkeen on the name my kids decided on for our dog (Freckles. I am NOT shouting that in the park) so I shortened it to Frek. He also answers to Shrek, Deck, Bleck....

Something short and that the dog can recognise (with a good hard syllable) is helpful for training.

I had a lab that is now long dead, but we adopted him when he was 1 yr. old. His name was Studley and he was always escaping. I spent 12 years of my life running up and down the streets in my neighborhood screaming "Studley, Studley come here." I always expected some weird man to come running up to me.

She is very adorable. There's no reason she should be as dumb as a box of rocks, so here's hoping.

Oh, and she's a shepherd/boxer mix, probably of slightly muddier lineage.

How about Shelly, Jessie, Kali. I'm sure your girls will come up with a lot of names. They're going to love it. It's adorable!

Jade.

My old dog that was recently put down was called Jade. She was a chihuahua/mini-fox-terrier cross. Totally adorable.

And we used to have a shepherd-cross-something called Eski. True story - we got Eski from the pound and she had already been given a name, and we kept it. My parents' friends had 3 dogs - Scotch, Coke and Ice (the puppy) so now they had an Eski to go in.

But I heartily recommend Jade as a puppy name. And depending on how girly your girls are, they might squee over that name too.

Our cats were called, respectively, Smeg, Head and Lister (we found him in a box and he liked curry)

Calling them for dinner was a matter of 'Smeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeegheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeead'

They also all had their own little songs that they would come to. (I'm...Smeg the..cat diddle-iddle-um, and I'm extra fat diddle-iddle-um. Or.. Lister, the little cat with the red and yellow bum to the theme tune of Noddy)

I agree. Like I mentioned before, our dogs have an official name and then there are a dozen more we call them. This pup is going to mean so much to them.

That's because you're nicer than me. But I absolutely want them to be happy with the name. I just need some ideas. I was always bad at naming. The babies were a hassle. Good thing they were cute, too.
