This was another book I read in school years ago when I was younger. I'm probably the only kid in that class who years later read this book again. I thoroughly enjoyed this book very much.

Paddle to the Amazon is the true-story of Donald Starkell and his son Dana who (along with Don's other son Jeff until Veracruz, Mexico) paddled from Winnipeg, Manitoba all the way to Belem, Brazil. The trip covered 12,000 miles and took almost two years to complete. It got them into the record books for the longest canoe trip ever. Along the way, they survived hurricanes, rough waters, near-starvation, and food poisoning. They were shot at, arrested, taken for spies, and were robbed. But in the end, father and son succeed in completing their trip and learning about themselves in the process.

Almost the entire majority of the book was written in diary form, each entry starting with the date and location. Only the first chapter and the epilogue were written in normal narrative.

All in all, a very good read. Highly recommended!
