Yeah, not sure I would be comfortable with erotica -- just me.

Trust me, I'm never going to be able to write erotica. I have enough trouble writing romantic scenes. But that doesn't change the fact that that's where the market is.

Oh I've tried writing it - I'm just not very good. Romantic tension, that I can cover. Erotica - no. Not a skilled enough writer not to sound corny

I had the same problem. I tried writing it once before, and it sucked. Then, last winter, hubby dared me to try it again. I ended up writing two shorts, one of which I loved and wanted to learn more about the characters.

Two weeks and over 50,000 words later, I had my first erotic novel. And I was just going to throw it on Amazon, but peers in a writing group of mine told me to try epublishers. I got my first contract on Feb. 1st.

Moving on, today is going to be pretty busy. I did about 13k yesterday and plan to do at least another 10k today. It's funny, with fantasy I had to think things through, but with my erotica, it's better for me to just write as fast as I can to avoid the internal editor then go back later to fix things.

I'll try and check in later. Have a great day, everyone.

Why not write in small 30 minute increments? I use mytomatoes.com to light a fire under my butt when I'm feeling like procrastinating. Not saying you are, just that it helps in giving you that extra little push.

I have to kill darlings today. I love a scene, but it's not working. I tried salvaging it with copy and past and now it just looks copied and pasted. I knew all along I just needed to rewrite it.

Bye darlings.

I'm not procrastinating - I'm sick with some kind of head-cold or something. I keep just having blank-out moments in my writing.

But I have managed about 1000 words today, thus far. So some progress. I'm aging am MG manuscript into the YA category and adding some meat to it. It's keeping my mind of the 'sickies' feeling at least

I would write erotica, but because I'm a teacher I think I'd get the sack if they ever found out :s

And it would be bunk if you did get fired. So, what? Are teachers not allowed to be human?*

* Irritated questioning aimed at those who might do the firing, not at you, personally

And also, hello fellow YA-ers!

There is a certain standard we are meant to maintain - which is fair enough I suppose. I wouldn't want my students to pick up something naughty - but I'd be happy for them to buy my YA

You could always publish the erotica under a pen name, no? And then just not have a photo for your book jacket...

Also I am participating in Write On Con this year...Is anyone else?

I posted my first 250 words in Write On Con's 250 word section. I figure critique is always good I can't decide if I want to post it in SYW too... (it's revised/totally redone from the original first chapter I had)

And yea I know what you mean by time consuming!

I'm hoping to attend (it depends how late it gets, me being on UK time, but at least you can read all the stuff the next day, which was what I did last year). I was lurking there earlier this evening, and I think I spotted you over there. I'm debating whether to post anything (I'll probably chicken out though, lol).

I'll check it out tomorrow. Going to sleep now. Also, I just posted the first 5 pages of my thriller that's almost done.

Morning all.

Writeon Con is a free conference of sorts where agents kind of help authors out. It takes place online and spans over two days I believe. This will be their third year? doing it.

Also, in regards to writing erotica as a teacher under a pen name, I believe one teacher did do this and did get let go from her job. I can't remember the name, but seriously...who the hell cares. She took every precaution not to let her students know. They just found out.

Sometimes parents are a little too...I can't think of the word. But I felt bad for her.

Agreed with Lark (again).

I read about the teacher who had a pen name, was found out and fired. It's not a friendly world for teacher's who do risque things. It sucks, but it is how it is.

That WriteOn Con sounds cool. I'm going to check it out I just wish my MS and query were done to take better advantage of it.

At the moment, I'm using Write On Con for the feedback from random strangers as opposed to putting my query up. I know I'm not ready to requery, and you can still post if that is the case (i.e. you're not ready to query, and you just want feedback). I figure their feedback might sting less than the SYW section.

Though - I got feedback on my first 170 revised pages last night I think combined with the feedback from Write On Con (for my first chapter) I'll be good to go.

Though at this rate, revisions will never get done!
