Now I have no idea.

This might be a good thing, because it means I have loads of stories.

But I'll damn well check what's going on in future. Lol.
FWIW, if you use Duotrope's submission tracker it has a control panel where you can see at a glance what stories are not currently out on submission.

But like everyone else has said -- we all make mistakes from time to time. I'm sure that yours is FAR from the worst that editor has had to deal with this week.

Ditto. This has saved me. The more and more stories I started subbing, the further out of control my previous tracking system slid.

So, I think I have bad luck with Nanoism. I've subbed there a couple times, and neither time I've gotten a confirmation (I'm not even sure if they do them). And I have also never gotten a response (rejection or otherwise). The first time I queried a couple times and couldn't get a response.

Has anyone else had the same problem? The first time I subbed it was actually at the request of the editor because he'd rejected it from another project. But then it was like...all the of sudden communication just ceased.

My second submission is with them now, a couple weeks. Which I know is not really a big deal. But because of my previous experience and because I didn't get any kind of confirmation, I'm a little nervous.

My Nanoism acceptance came at ~90 days. I don't believe they send confirmation of receipt of a story.

I do. I just didn't look. I was so sure it was back in.

Anyway, no worries. I'll check in future, my memory obviously isn't as good as I thought.

Wow, seriously? I guess that helps put things in perspective. They say their response time is a couple weeks, I think. But to query after 3 mos(?). Did you query at all, Suzanne, or just let it ride? Just curious.

That market I wouldn't query after 3 months... They taken longer regularly. My sale to them was after 127 days and those numbers aren't uncommon - even though I've seen 10 day acceptances on Duotrope also.

I didn't query, although I idly considered it a couple of times. I saw from Duotrope that they had a bunch of really long response times mixed in with short ones, and decided that, at least for the time being, I had other things to stress about and just to let it go. And eventually they bought it, so hey, it worked out.

I think if I'd hit 300 days I would have just written it off entirely -- not queried, but not re-subbed the piece elsewhere either. Writing microfiction still feels sort of like goofing around to me, so I don't feel as invested in it as my usual stuff. But it's also true that for some reason markets like to sit on my stuff muuuuuuuch longer than average; seems like there wasn't much of this year where I didn't hold at least one of the top-pending times on Duotrope.

Speaking of Nanoism, if I don't manage to get anything else new out the door this week, my submission there will be my "Sub 1" for this week.

My "Write 1" is a mystery short that I just wrapped up the first draft of a few minutes back. I'll take a second pass through it tomorrow.

I've got two R's from nanoism (4 & 16 days). Subs like mine are what makes the average shorter I guess!

I have two subs out right now. Both past R's. I'm starting to really use the duotrope tracker and liking it.

Finishing the semester and getting over a "sinus infection" (I'm in cold denial) really messed me up this week. But I'm taking my NaNo notebook to work tonight and feel up to walking back into that mess.

Gah! So the range in time is HUGE! At least you know sooner than later. Sorry they had to be R's, though.

Nice one, Victoria! That deserves a

I'm on the cusp of finishing my write 2 for December. First draft is gonna clock in at close to 9k, though, which is the longest story i've written in a couple years. And i'm really not sure how much i can cut during edits. Maybe in a week or two i'll be able to find significant things that can go.

Finished the story draft. Close to 9k, i said? Try 9,750 words. Heh, i could have finished it at less than 5k, but i decided that ending was too obvious. So i've gone for something else, which may or may not be less obvious, and is 5k longer

And i haven't got a title yet. Actually, as i type that i've just thought of a title. w00t!

Seaborn, completed (pending edits) at just under 10K. That's novelette territory!

So I finished a second draft of my SFF Sekrit Santa story, which I can't yet tell anyone much about because the guessing thread is still going on, but I feel pretty good about it. 11,125 words.

Not sure I have the faintest clue where to sub it to, but if I can figure it out, I may just get my S1 for December too (-:

You know, I've had acceptances before, but never for something in print. Actually, I've never submitted to a print mag or anthology. I did today with my short story for the month! It's an anthology with a fairly new publisher and if I get accepted, I'll actually be able to hold my writing. That's the ultimate desire, isn't it? I've only subbed to the one market for now. If it's an R, I'll seek others.

Yeah, I'd like to see something of mine in print, one day.

Good luck!

And I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I did. It was filled with a surprising amount of nose jizz, because everyone had this filthy cold that we all shared in a very unhygienic way, but apart from that, it was great.
Bambi died for me, and I ate him.

After a year and a half of submitting and selling stories, I only have *one* physical manifestation of my work, and it's just a 100-word story in the latest issue of The Drabbler.

I do have stories in 3 anthologies and a print mag coming out in 2012 - can't wait to finally get my hands on one of them, so I can feel like a real writer!
