I'm an editor/consultant and have been approached by a client about updating and revising an already published 1998 nonfiction book for a new edition. I've never done this kind of revision before and am not sure what the parameters of revisions/updates should be. Can anyone point me to some good guidelines/best practices for this? Thanks for your help!

Too little information to go on, I'd say.

That aside, I'd think that a long face-to-face discussion with the author as to his/her expectations and about your fees would be in order before anything else.

I don't see what you can do other than what Ken recommends.
