They were definitely pulling your leg. You can cross the road wherever you like. There are designated pedestrian crossings, but you don't have to use them. It's only the US where you can be arrested for crossing the road.

I have totally jaywalked in front of a cop in the middle of NYC. I asked my cousin as we were like, halfway across the street if it was a problem, and she was like, oh, um.

It was one of those bad habits I developed in college.

Say your in a hedge maze... do you think it is possible to stand ontop of the hedges? There pretty lush but would it would support the weight of a teenage boy around 150lb's?

Next... What do you think is more aweosme.

Background: Two teens lost in a foggy hedge maze hunted by a Minotaur. Which is a more aweosme way to kill it.

A) One teen stands in the middle of one of the maze paths as it charges, and the other jumps out with a sword and stabs it in the back as it passes.

B)One teen runs ahead and lays ontop of one of the hedges (this goes along with the previous question), the other faster teen leads the charging beast past the hidden lying down one, who jumps on its back and stabs it in the top of the head with a sword, and or jab out its eyes with arrow heads?
To answer the question about the hedges: While I have never stood on one, hedges are not brick walls. While I'm pretty sure you could try to stand on top of one, you would sink in at least up to your ankles.

To answer the other question: Well, which one are your characters more likely to think up? B would take a lot more strategy and courage than A especially for the person that has to lead the Minotaur. They can't get too far away from the attacker and there's always the chance that the Minotaur will overtake them before the attacker has time to bring the Minotaur down.

Darn, I was kind of hoping it was true. I hate city driving because people just walk out from between cars without even looking.

yeah its technically illegal in the US, but I've never heard, or seen a person every stopped by the cops for it. Its one of those laws no one cares about including police.

I'm a Montrealer who visits New York like it's a suburb (distance-wise, that is). New York and Montreal have many things in common, but there are two that are most distinct:

TRAFFIC LAWS DON'T EXIST. THEY'RE REALLY JUST GUIDELINES.

Drivers are crazy, pedestrians are crazy, and bikers are self-righteous.

Actually, I like it. It means that drivers slow down when there are pedestrians around, which they ought to do anyway. Often the driver will slow down and signal for the pedestrian to cross, because it's in his interest to get the pedestrian out of his way.

That was what i thought about the hedges too... just wondering though. And as for the plans both could be easily thought up by them, although i think i'm going to stick with A, because i just thought for the first time. How the hell is Matty going to get ontop of the hedges? Evy (about 105lbs,) is sure as hell not going to be able to lift him and there about 10 feet high.

Thank you!

As for the jaywalking I agree with you. I live in the city and still avoid driving in it at all cost... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! People are such jerks when it comes to walking around. I dont understand what gives a person the audacity to walk in front of a moving car that could kill them and then get angry at the driver for honking when they walk right out in the middle of the street during a damn red light for them!!!

I once drove in the city, and had a group of teenagers just run out in the middle of a street, between two parked cars. Apparently they were playing tag and thought it was perfectly ok to walk out in front of traffic going 25-30mph. Thank God I pay close attention in the city and stopped in time otherwise i would have hit 4 of them! The car next to me wasnt paying as much attention of didnt have good breaks. He missed on of the kids by inches as he slammed on his breaks. Then the kids had the nerve to throw a can of soda (full) at the car that almost hit them and cracked the guys back window. Then one kid even punched the hood of my car and flipped me off for no reason! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

When I went to USA to visit some friends, man I didn't half get shouted at when I was set to cross the road that wasn't a crossing... (there were no cars about)...
Over here, you can pretty much cross anywhere (providing there's a big enough gap) and no one cares. I know in America you can get arrested for pretty much anything. Which is stupid imo. But oh well.

You truly have no idea my hate for self-righteous bikers! You have no idea how many times i've open just opened my door infront of them in hopes they could slam into it and flip over. Sounds mean right? Yeah i know, but I CANT STAND THEM!!!!

In philly they passed a new law that bikers cant ride on the pavements. They HAVE to ride in the streets, because all the damn bikers protested that they want equal rights as the divers. Ok i understand that, but if you want to ride in the God damn street you need to follow the same God damn rules. Which include STOPPING AT RED LIGHTS!!!! GRRRRR, half the time they dont even slow the hell down! Next they should be allowed to leave there damn little bike lane, and drive in between cars during traffic! Or ride in the middle of the damn street. If the speed limit is 30mph you better peddle 30mph or get the hell out of the line of cars waiting behind your slow ass!!!

Sorry for the rant... i really hate bikers.

London's like that, but not quite to the extreme NY and Montreal are.

Seriously, if you ever spend a day as a pedestrian in New York, you'll mind will be blown.

I love it. It makes me feel at home.

ETA: But seriously. My modus operandi is often just walking in the actual street. I have to THINK about streetlights.

honestly i dont even know why people in NY own a car. Driving is beyond insane with all the traffic. And parking is IMPOSSIBLE!

We take a train from Trenton to get to NY. Cheaper and easier that way. Then walk or take cabs everywhere. For some reason cabbies are the only ones who can drive in NY. I've never hit traffic in a cab, always hit it in a car though.

See...that's the part we're missing. When I walk across campus, I have to cross the street. Cars are supposed to stop and yield to pedestrians, but I always yield to cars because I can never tell which ones are actually going to stop and which ones are just going to keep on going.

There's one crosswalk that I won't even go near because it's next to a three-way intersection and people don't use their turn signals so I never know if they're going straight or if they're turning into the crosswalk.

Well, there are a lot of things that you CAN get arrested for. Technically.

But you only actually get arrested for them when it's completely not in your control.

I will be living there already, bitch.

ETA: When I live in NY, I will own a car for when I leave the city once I have a family. Until then, I will use the subway and trains. And taxis.

It's hilarious to watch total tourists hail taxis, though.

Alot of people i know want to move to NY... personally i dont see why. (Well if you come from Philly i dont see why) Here is just a smaller version of NY with less traffic, less noise, (slightly) less crime, and more history. And depending where you are slightly nicer people.... well unless it comes to sports...Were actually labeled the Worst fans of in the US (as in people rooting for other teams have been killed here over that stupid stuff. there is even said to be a underground secret passage that opposing teams have to use to get to and from there vans, because our fans are just THAT bad.)

I'm a Habs fan. I'm obligated to hate Philly.

Ally... London, Montreal, Toronto, all these places have the same thing. The difference is that some people love the craziness. Don't disrespect that.
